... Our next stop was the Hakata Traditional Craft and Design Museum. There were many Hakata dolls here and the shop owner showed us many samples and told us about their history and some details about their production. The dolls are very beautiful and the authentic ones that are original in design and hand-painted are very expensive - thousands of dollars. We were directed to a famous shopping street called the Hakata Kawabata ...

We had a very nice buffet breakfast at our hotel this morning. At 9 am Kumiko Asami arrived in front of the hotel in her little green Suzuki to pick us up and take us to the train station where we met Haruyo Handa and Kazuko Yamaguchi. ... was certainly built to last, and the steep walls must have been successful in keeping out warring factions for quite some time.

The castle is 5.3km in circumference; it had 120 water wells, 49 turrets, and 29 castle gates. The stone walls are called Mushagaeshi which means repelling warriors, because of the acute angle of the walls, which rise from a gradual inclining slope in the lower sections, to a nearly vertical face in the upper fifth of the wall, making ...

On a lighter note, this is Hagi a town filled with pottery and orange groves. A place to sooth the soul with beauty. Bizarrely there was a gigantic modern building dedicated to ceramics in this quiet little island town. Incredible professional pottery in the museum and shops overflowing with more pots. No vanilla ice cream in this town, only orange. Made a change from seeing green tea ice ...
