      ... Helen tried the White bean with cherry leaf which is the seasonal speciality which was really very good. Chris & Nia opted for the chocolate fillings. Full of sake & various foods we went to the castle which is heritage listed. Volunteers offer a free guiding service so we availed ourselves of this and had a very entertaining and informative two hours with our personal guide. We climbed right to the top of the castle and learnt a lot about castles and Japan in general. ...

      ... have tatami mats which must not be walked in in shoes. Nia likes them because it has a horsy stable smell (hay like smell). We have slippers for the hall area and special toilet slippers! There are no beds as the maids come to lay out the futon mattresses at 7pm. When Nia unpacked her bag she found her camera...       It’s a 1.6km walk to where the monkeys are through a lovely pine forest. The Snow monkeys are Japanese Macaques are the only primates to live in a place where it snows. The monkeys are able to do this by spending their time in the onsen.

      ... chair which is a great run for the kids. A couple of laps of Paradise and then some runs on Yamabiko (the "half pipe" run a highlight for the kdis) and then it was time for lunch at our favourite place on the mountain - Buna.

      Getting on to the next town was welcome after 2 days on my own. At 9:03am a tiny bus whined up the hill with a hunched old man behind the wheel.
