... location(heavy snow etc). The museum also showed the various ways people survived for example by harvesting the product of silk worms. Once I'd had a good look around the museum I headed to the station and caught the train to Kyoto. Arriving at 4.45 it was already getting dark so I sorted out the hostel and got some food from a very nice place that served me noodles and seafood on a hot plate on the table. The temples had some brilliant gardens surrounding them(see pictures), which really made use of the autumnal colours and must be off the tourist radar because they were well worth visiting and yet I only saw 2 or 3 people in the whole 12 temple complex. ... train to Kyoto I was reviewing my notes and found my original e-mail to Shiho. Nancy and I looked it over and we both nodded to each other and said "She nailed it". In Japanese, Satoyama is a word that describes Japan's unspoiled farming landscape co-existing with local life and nature, and satoumi represents coastal areas in which the sea has a strong connection with people's livelihoods. For the past 8 days we were allowed a peek into that part of Japan and it ...

... views of the ocean, sea cliffs and wonderful towns. Everywhere you look, there are gardens being planted, tilled, tended and manicured. The Noto citizens take such incredible pride in the gardens that the area was recently designated a Japanese National Heritage area for its gardening and agriculture. We enjoy looking at everything, as well as eating the wonderful produce.
The sun was just beginning to shine through when we reached our lunch ...
