Discover quiet luxury in the Swedish Countryside

A hidden gem in the peaceful Swedish countryside. We checked Trip Advisor for recommendations in this area and found great remarks about Toftaholm. We agree, it is a lovely, secluded choice for road-weary travelers. Our accommodations were typical of this type of hotel, lovely and comfortable. The surroundings are calm. We enjoyed a walk near the lake after a marvelous dinner.

The service and food were first rate. We actually considered staying on for an additional day but our travel plans required us to carry on.

We had the unexpected chance to meet Tolftaholm's new owners Eva och Pelle Hjortblad. It bodes well that the future is in the hands of this lovely couple. They plan to continue the success of this special place. We wish them well!

We can be very spontaneous, so when Lars announced at noon on Monday that we should take a little utflykt (outing) we threw some things in our luggage and headed south out of Stockholm. There is some major road repair on the main highway south so we recalculated our route to travel north of Lake Mälaren toward Örebro before turning south towards Vä …

Over The Bridge into the Swedish forest

Today we caught the train from Denmark to Sweden. So that means going over the famous Bridge. In the middle of the Bridge is the border between Denmark and Sweden where the opening scenes of the TV series called The Bridge was filmed. The train took us to Alvesta where we changed to go on to Rydaholm to be driven the last 7 km into the forest.

... again. Internet on board was a distraction as chatted with Willow, James and Sharon. Forests interspersed with pretty, small lakes. Two women opposite me talked non-stop the whole way from Stockholm to Copenhagen. I would have gone mad except being in a different language I could tune out !! However when I was worried about where I was stopping, they helped me in English! We went over the longest Nordic bridge. At the station a nice young man helped me down with my suitcase. Found ...

... time. Some areas of Sweden lost nearly half of their residents. We stopped at a couple of places along the Emigrants' Path, while learning more about emigration and the Moberg novels. Our final stop was in Linneryd, the area from which one of the team's relatives emigrated.

Our evening was equally exciting as we had the opportunity to meet up with the Växjö Rotaract Club, including Karin from the Swedish GSE team, for ...
