Tofta Visby, Gotland, Sweden
I am on the beautiful island of Gotland, in the Baltic Sea, east of the Swedish mainland. I flew into Stockholm and took several buses and trains to arrive at the ferry harbor of Nynäshamn. The ferry departed at 9pm and took 3 hours to reach Visby, the main town of Gotland. There were about 600 passengers on the ferry, about one third of the number in July when tourism is at its peak. I was met at the terminal by my friend Lena Lager, and a former Innisfree volunteer from 1999. She came ...

Right across the street from S:t Drottens was S:t Lars, another ruin of similar size to S:t Drottens. This one had a little bit more of a roof to it, and there was much more space to wander around off the ground up in the higher parts of the ruin. It was very ...
... added an additional display about the Finnish-Swedish war that took place at some point, I didn't learn much because all of the descriptions for everything were in Swedish and Finnish only. It is a really interesting museum though, with lots of really interesting things from Swedens history, including the very tattered 400 year old stuffed horse.
Then came the Tre Kronor museum, named after the old version of the castle that used to stand where the current one is ...
Today was our full day to spend at the family amusement park and campground called Kneippbyn, on the island of Gotland. This park includes a hotel, cabins, campgrounds, restaurants, mini golf, amusement park, and water park. It is located on the west shore of the island, just south of the port city Visby. Although it sounds like quite a big place, it was not as large as you might think, making all of the activities reasonably accessible. We got ...
Visby, Gotland, Sweden larzstarzHi All,
Wow - another busy day. This morning we got up and drove a couple hours to Oskarshamn in order to catch our ferry ride (3 hours) to the island called Gotland. We checked into our hotel and promptly got back into the car for another hour or so in order to explore the rock formations on the other side of the island. Surrounded by the Baltic Sea, it's been cool and windy - which is normal for this time of year. That doesn't stop the ...
... Unfortunately, our guide Dan said that we couldn't go up in a turbine but he did provide an in depth presentation. The kids seemed very interested and Joe Stoos especially brought up some excellent questions. After spending over an hour in Nasudden, we all hopped back in cars and headed back towards Visby. After a brief lunch we walked along the inside of the medieval city, but it was soon time to ...
Visby, Gotland, Sweden eafmet... dotted here or there. Every where else we have been there is farm land, you may pass the occasional wooded area, but it has all been farm land and houses and you certainly see a lot more cars. The drive to Oskarshamn on the other side of Sweden took about 3hrs. This is where we would get the ferry over to Gotland. We turned up expecting to buy a ticket for the next morning and find somewhere to sleep, but it turned out a ferry was leaving soon, and there was still space left. So ...
Visby, Sweden laine... city avoiding the many people walking around. We biked down to the ocean and enjoyed the sun setting on the water. What a beautiful start to our trip to Gotland. The next day we awkoe and packed up our camp and headed to a lake about 25km away. We loaded up everything and were off to the grocery store to pick up some food and beers for the camping trip. The ride through the country side was uneventful until we got to the middle of ...
Gotland Island, Sweden beautiful_freak... during the summer. Due to the large amount of "wealthy" tourists who choose Gotland as a summer tourist destination, these artists run very successful businesses. So after picking up a map of all he different workshops open, we decided to check out a few (specifically Gotlandic krukmakeris [ceramics] because I am in love with Gotlandic earth wares and pottery). Saturday evening we went to Bruna Dorren (my summer workplace) with Mattias's family to have ...
Ljugarn, Sweden sarahjsEaster is coming up and we have put up our Easter tree, a European tradition I guess. we went out to the forest and gathered some branches and tied them in a bundle. Then we tied little egg ornaments and little fluffy chickens and some colorful feathers on it. Strange, yes but it was fun to make.
