Historical Traveler Reviews of Tivoli Carvoeiro
Location is its only asset

I too was very disappointed with the Almansor. We stayed in March 2004 and paid extra for what we thought a 'sea view' when in fact we were issued with a side sea view from which you could see the sea if you strained your neck!! The breakfast was served in a dark dingy underground restaurant which was very dismal indeed and the food not much better. I couldnt believe their policy of charging for the hospitality tray in the room - the first time ever we have been asked to pay extra for tea and coffee. The staff were unhelpful also in our quest to change rooms and we were stuck with a 2nd rate room all week. My impression was that of a very large and impersonal hotel with poor customer service. Would reather stay somewhere smalller with staff who care about client satisfaction.
Tired hotel - tired staff - Great Country

Paid over £600 each for 7 days B&B - hotel half empty - they gave us a terrible room - we complained - they did nothing - we sat by the pool each day looking at empty available rooms with great views - poor management lacking any immagination - disgruntled clients do not return or recommend hotels to others - Take your money elsewhere. This hotel is not value for money at any price!

Dear Sir,
We are sorry that your stay in our hotel was not as pleasant as you expected. We take very seriously your complaint and our policy is always to improve our service in order to best satisfy our guests.
Our company promotes the policy of quality in accordance to the international standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001.
Regarding to the amount of £600 each for 7 days in bed and breakfast we like to say that we do not apply this kind of rates and namely for the low season, October and November, which is the case.
For less than £600 you could have had booked directly at Rack Rate a Junior Suite in our Hotel for 7 days in Bed and Breakfast basis. We advise you to contact your Travel Agent and carefully check the amount you paid because you were surely over charged.
Concerning the type of room we like to inform you that we have 40% of our rooms facing the sea side and the other 60% are Land View. As you may understand the rooms facing the seaside are more expensive than the Land View rooms. As per your file you have booked a Land View room.
Between the 24th until the 31st October 2004 we had our hotel with 80% occupancy. By that time was held "The 9th Almansor Classic Golf Tournament" and the major rooms booked for this event were Sea View Rooms. During the day you could not see many of the guests because they were out at the Golf Tournament.
Of course that we still had a few Sea View Rooms available but you would have to be charged accordingly as suggested by our Staff. The amount was just €15.00 extra per night.
Finally we like to stress that all our Staff is highly qualified and well trained.

Tivoli Almansor, highly recommended, however...

Just returned from a week's stay at Tivoli Almansor.
The hotel is set in a fantastic location, amazing views and within walking distance to the centre of the lovely Carvioera. Our room was tastefully decorated, but in need of a refit. Everywhere was kept spotlessly clean, however, our only complaint worth mentioning is that the food was apauling! Glad we had gone for the B&B and not half board.
Generally a great place, would definately recommend it.
A Very Comfortable Stay
from Vipski
We spent 11 nights at the Tivoli Almansor and we can honestly say we had a really great holiday.
The location is great, set in it's own little cove with a tiny beach (It's tidal and has a few steps down to it). Just 10 minutes stroll down the hill into town, if you ever make it into town! There are so many lovely restaurants & bars on the way to tempt you. The Bar & restaurant in the hotel have a fantastic sea view and so did our room. We used the Steam & Suana each evening. Facilities are good, staff are very helpful & friendly. A comfortable 4 star hotel, just a tiny bit dated in places, but don't let that put you off. We loved it and would recommend a stay there.
Can't wait until our next visit.
Very relaxing

For the bargain price the hotel was great £400 a twin room with breakfast and a few meals thrown in free. If you say it's a special occasion they will supply a free bottle of champagne. Great service and friendly staff. Loads of space and seating around the hotel to chill, chat or read.
We had a great sea view from the balcony and overlooking the pool.
The food isn't anything to write home about but the hotel is 10 minutes walk away from a large selection of lovely cheap restaurants in Carvoeiro town. There are some great late night bars too, the party kicks off at 12 usually, Oficina bar is recommended for some live music, Safari Bar for late night drinking and chatting.
All in all a very enjoyable holiday at the Tivoli Almansor.
Great place if you can get a good price

Myself and a friend went to the Almansor at the end of March 2004. We had booked a twin room via the expedia website and got a very good deal - around £360 for the room for two weeks including breakfast. We didn't pay the extra for a sea view but our room at the back was nice and quiet and we didn't spend that much time in the hotel anyhow. The hotel is showing its age a bit but is clean and well maintained. In-room facilities (tea & coffee) were basic and I thought mini-bars were a thing of the past. Although there's a safe in each room, you have to pay extra to get a lock for it - bit of a cheek. The staff were generally friendly and helpful apart from one particularly odious little restaurant manager. The inclusive breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. You could go for the whole cooked bacon and eggs job or have cerals and fruit or just be a pig and eat everything in sight. The one let-down was the coffee which came from vending machines rather than being freshly brewed. We purchased some vouchers (15 euroes per person) for the evening buffet for days when we didn't feel like going out. This was good value for money and you could eat about 10 different courses if your stomach was up to it. The bar was a pleasant spot to view the sunset and there was always some sort of entertainment there in the evening. There was also a lounge that showed satellite sports channels, mainly football in the evenings. The outside pool was a bit crowded but had stunning views. The inside pool and sauna were tiny. Most people seemed to be there as independent travellers rather than in package groups and there were more than a few golfers staying. The hotel is in a good location, just outside the village of Carvoeiro on the main road. It's a five minute walk down into the village and a ten minute stagger back once you've had a few to drink. The coastal walks are stunning as long as you don't have vertigo - the cliffs are sheer and there's little safety fencing to stop you going over. Bottom line is I'd recommend the hotel but only if you get it at a good rate. Although it claims 4 stars, it was showing its age and the food/service wasn't 4 star quaility.
Alrighty where do i start.

Again just like the title where do I start. I honestly dont know, really i dont im not very good at this writting review business so i don't know where to start. Just jetted back from 7 days in the sun the newspaper that is seens how the hotel was so lame I felt more comfortable sleeping on a british tabloid. First day there I was abused by overfreindly dogs. I had read of portugese dogs attacking tourist but never in my wildest dreams thought it would happen to me and it did. Food was awful as im use to eating deluxo style meals I was appauled at what was put infront of me not even the dogs who attacked me would eat it. All in all had a great time lovely place real bobby Dazzler shame about the dogs but there animals they don't understand and if they did I'd be very upset seens how I have a k 9 myself and would be destrought to think he'd attack a Portugese tourist atleast if he was un provoked provoked maybe I'd feel different but heh enough of me rambling on. Have a great time but again i can't stress the importance of dog viggilance.

An above average 4 Star hotel, the staff of which could not do enough to help you. An absolute fantastic holiday.
Disappointed
from loz2006
Compared to the four star hotels in Cyprus, the Tivoli Almansor in Carvoeiro doesnt match up.The "cooked" breakfast was just above being cold and waiting to use the toast machine was like waiting for a London bus! There was no poolside service like most hotels with such a grading and the entertainment very poor. The only good things about this hotel were the fantastic view from the balcony(which will cost you £180 extra!) and the rooms were very spacious and kept spotlessly clean. If you do go to Carvoeiro i recommend the Vimar restaurant and then the Flik Flak bar for the evening.
