Old Friends (Well Friends from the Past!)

We left Sudbury mid morning and met some friends in Espanola. Carmene was one of my bridesmaids when I got married. We had a pleasant visit. Then we headed out for Sualt Ste. Marie and crossed into the US. We travelled along Hwy 28 in Northern Michigan to Marquette where we camped at Wal mart. We were reminded of home today by "Calabogie Road" near the Sault and "Carp River" in Northern Michigan. We saw a wolf today by the roadside.

States 14 and 15 of the trip - WI and MI

... ve been vacant a while. I turned off the road to check out the skiing capital of the Midwest – Powderhorn Mountain, which was downhill from the road I was on!! There were 6 or 7 chairlifts with smart red paint but which looked like they were driven by steam power and the whole place was empty and shut up. The lodge made me think of the hotel in "The Shining" so I turned back to the main road pretty sharpish.

The biggest ...

Day 5: Bayfield WI - Marquette MI

... be any different from the summer and for the most part they weren't, but with all her school friends thrown into the mix i guess i just found out that that's one aspect of our lives that isn't so "parallel" i kind of feel like that makes me sound like a selfish little kid, but she is my Minkus after all. So the visit was a good break, but not what i expected...and once again the beat goes on.

08 Big Bay

Although not on the official Lake Superior circle tour, Big Bay seems like a good addition except it is a sixty mile dead-end road :). Did not stay here but needed the almighty map-pin... Tidbit: - The twelve volt booster battery is working well -- it has enough juice to process my pictures and write small log files on my PC. It fully recharges again when we hit the road.

Day19 Fri, Aug17 - Superior, WI to Marquette, MI

... is Just in the Air The Superior Inn had a heated pool and whirlpool. Parents were taking their children down there as late as ten PM so there was a certain amount of tired, whiney activity in the halls as we got ready for bed. The promised WiFi was s.l.o.o.o.w.w but did work sort of OK so there was a certain amount of tired, whiney activity in the room before we went to bed. A Beautiful Morning Gets ...

Crossing the Bridge

... on the menu. White fish is a delicately flavored fish native to the Great Lakes. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. When we head out to Marquette, it is dark and it is a very cold clear night. The moon over the water is beautiful, with a great view of the night sky. There is not the light pollution here as in other places, so the stars are numerous and brilliant. So ends day one, tomorrow we are off to Iron Mountain and Escanaba.

Da UPpers Area - Lake Michigamme

Exchanged our few remaining Canadian Dollars, claimed our GST (General Sales Tax) Refund, and crossed back into the U.S. at the Sault Ste. Marie crossing. Still driving through Great Lakes Country, so lots of pretty scenery everywhere. Laughed at the sign for "Da UPpers Tourist Trap" (for those of you unfamiliar with the Upper Peninsula (U.P.)of Michigan, the residents are ...

what a pity

... crushed and that one at least nearly burned, that's beside the fact! We are twisted. Nothing else really exciting to report except that today we drove through "What-a-pity"(wahnapitae) as Grams used to say. Hilarious. This campsite is way nicer than last night (internet!) and no loud obnoxious drunk chicks to keep us up. Shwoof.

A day with Grandma

Last morning in Houghton, followed by a trip to the Porkies with my grandma. Visited Lake of the Clouds and then various waterfalls in the park. Lots of fun with photos to follow soon. Ended the day with dinner in Marquette. Now it's time for bed. Night everyone, ~A
