... so I read in the guide book that security is really good in this city. The drive took 2.5 hours and I slept most of the way since I got up so early.

The Hyatt is located right on the beach but when we arrived around noon, it was high tide so the ocean came up almost to the pool area (or is it also global warming and the raising sea level?)

Re-learning how to relax in Old Cha Am

... Nice to be by pool and beach and not in a big town......at least here there is a lovely breeze, not a cooling one but it is there. Phil left to return motorbike in case it was needed for errands. Agreed to see him tomorrow at 6.30 pm to get the three of us on one bike to go to restaurant....should be fun! Walked down the beach and had a swim in the sea, very very warm water. Sat for a ...

... red meat. I know as a vegetarian that sounds decent, but he definitely wasn't given enough protein and iron, so his brain and body never fully developed. He walks almost like he's drunk--very sloppy, falling down, and imagine, it's this huge ferocious tiger, not able to walk straight, much less run. The signals from his brain to his legs just don't work well. He also had a castration from someone that was ...

... their travel cages, got in the car, and drove to the airport. The sad thing is, though, that they have such a super long flight ahead of them, and then SIX MONTHS in quarantine in the airport in England. That just seems cruel. Yes, it's nice she loved the dogs so much to want to bring them with her to England, but it seems a bit cruel to put them through all that. Their names are Hooligan and Scrappy and that they are ...

Sanctuary beginnings

... near the beginning, so that was nice. The bus was full of Thai people and had some cute little curtains to block out the hot Thai sun. I was afraid I might get motion sick, since the man placed me near the back of the bus, but I was fine. I liked looking out at the green countryside (probably from all the monsoons!) and the trip went by really quickly. When I got to Cha Am, I used my recently purchased mobile phone to ...

The beach at last!

... the could... hermit crabs - I've never seen so many. you could literally put you hand in the water and grab 10 every time. Fish - we'd already experienced the kids uncanny ability to just grab these out of the water at Ban Mai Clams - they set about digging huge holes in the sandbanks to get at these little blighters ...and put them all in plastic bags or bottles. Each child walking around with their own portable aquarium of slowly suffocating sea life. After ...

no place like home

... like that, zip zip zip, i was on the expressway to bangkok and then on rama2 road to samut sakhon and samut songkram and by one in the morning i was in my apartment at khao yoi. a nice shower and a cold beer chang - how i missed thee mister chang - and a happy reunion with my guitar (tie me kangaroo down, sport, tie me kangaroo down, d,g,a,d) and soon i was between the covers with the genting highlands a distant memory.

... Immediately I was invited to come and see her work on the following day. She's a social worker and delivers free meals to impoverished rural schools. Next day we were at the school - i even got to dish out the food to those kids. The kids are extremely well-behaved and appreciative of the food. They even bowed and thanked the teachers, and washed up afterwards. It turned out that the social worker knows a very good ...

Aahhh, the joy: Denver to Thailand in 8 easy steps

... transported back to the hours and hours (and days and days) I spent on the highways when I lived here way back in the 20th century... The L.A. International terminal is chaos personified. People speaking every language and from every nation and in every type of clothes were walking around, trying not to lose their children while desperately trying to find out where to go to stand in line for 45 minutes to be practically strip-searched by security ...

Welcome to the Jungle

... He can't move very much, so he loves it whenever anyone comes over and gives him a scratch on the head or any kind of attention. I've stayed with him until he's fallen asleep. There's so much more I could say, but I have to get back to the center right now to check on everyone's water supply. Just thought you'd like a little taste of what my new jungle world is like. Let me know what's going on in yours... Much love, Jess PS Check out their website: http://www.wfft.org/
