Unfortunately, given I bet Kate at the beginning of our holiday that we wouldn't see a Hawaii plate and there were two pinned to the walls of this place, I am now $100 lighter in the pocket. ... Dave Fertitta came up and stayed the night. A short visit, but fun. Sadly my guest trailer isn’t ready for prime time, and is pretty well water-logged, but he got to try out my euro-lounger couch. He said it was pretty comfy, but I needed more large blankets. Sorry, Dave. I have that sorted now, so come on back anytime.

I also have a very active social life. Besides attending a couple of community meetings, I’ve been to a birthday ...

Mini beach holiday

... to blend in with surrounding landscape, there are many access points to the beach and a small town eight miles from where the Thornhill's house is.

We made a brief stop in Petaluma before winding our way up the coast. The last 80kms is very windy, we are so lucky to have kids that don't get affected by car sickness or it could have been a very slow difficult journey. We were really pleased to arrive and be greeted by Henry and Kathy.

Alexa had the pleasure of hearing a man and woman argue loudly this morning in the lobby when she and Brad were heading to the gas station market across the road. It was time to get out of the area.

Our next stop was the Avenue of the Giants in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. We did this 31 mile drive with all three kids in 2005. We worked backwards on the auto tour.

We noticed the Elk River was hardly a river at this point. ...

... of them were doing great jumps, which was cool. There were also a bunch of birds on a dock by the restaurant. The cormorants were coming up from fishing and drying their wings on the dock, which was wonderful. A pelican stopped by for a few minutes: I’ll never get over how big those things are.
