    An old city on natural trade routes. The culture is a melting pot of European, Indian and Middle Eastern styles. Not much is very old as the town was raised to the ground in 1795. Just the old city walls and a few churches remain from the older city.

    The city mascot is a wine drinking seated man which is dated to BC.

    Staying tomorrow so we can check out the museums and then it is off the the wine ...

    ... Georgian Caucasus for 6000 years and are happy we can sample some before buying. We found several reasonably priced candidates; a Mildaini Winery 2011 Tvishi (semi sweet wine) and a Marani Tsinandali (dry white) to take home. Plus I bought an Ice Wine from Telavi Wine Cellar Marani made from Satrapezo grapes. I was happy to have so much choice for semi-sweet in both reds and whites.
