Hello All, Just a very brief update to say that we are OK. We just heard that there was an earthquake in a town 130km away that rated 7 on the Richter scale - we didnt feel a thing! :) We spent yesterday on the Isle of Capri and saw some marvellous natural wonders - Arch Naturale, Blue Grotto (bit of a rip, but amazing experience all the same) and the ruins of Emperor Tiberius villa on the clifftops, which offered beautiful views of the island. Today we planned to go to Mount Vesuvius, but th...

Sue

As we drove closer to San Marino, we all started saying, "Did she REALLY say "the NATION" of San Marino?? And that's exactly what it was: It's full title is "The Republic of San Marino". John will do doubt tell you of its history. It's set high on a mountain, with the most glorious view and was yet another treasure chest waiting to be opened for us! It was our nicest hotel by far - VERY upmarket! - and it was exciting to follow the ...
San Marino, San Marino, San Marino polliesWe are on our last day in Rimini, and we're both quite glad of it. Not that we haven't had a good time (though the hostel has been a bit rubbish).

The journey down here from Munich was a real slog! It took 8 hours, though that didn't really bother us too much. 8 hours of discomfort on a cramped Italian train however, that was what made it difficult. It was a compartment style train (6 seat per compartment, 3 on each side facing each other) which seemed great when we first sat down ...

Cesenatico, Emilia-Romagna, Italy wolgo0420... to check in the morning. Of course morning came and they had one room left but couldn't do it for any lease than 30euros more than the orignally wanted. Son instead of saving 30 we spent an extra 30 - oh well to quote Role Models don't ********* a *********ter...hillarous movie (and only one we've seen in months) by the way. Next day we toured all around Rimini which we expected to be like a jazzed up Miami but actually had a cool historic center and eclectic ...
Rimini, Emilia-Romagna, Italy moore_mattj... Byzantine mozaics in the world, Ravenna is small, has free bike hire and a bike/pedestiran only town centre, and of the sites apart from one lie within a few hundred metres of one another. Another highlight - the place is free of the hoards of tourists we encountered everywhere else in Italy.

And the mosaics - my pictures don't do them any justice at all, you really must go for ...
Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy kristinb... to 11 the big linebacker who plays a lot of slot and tight end. Reggie is on the coverage and the ball was high. 11 leaps up and catches it, leaving himself very exposed, while Reggie knife’s through 11 legs, flipping him upside down. 11 comes crashing back to earth upside down, the ball bounces out of his grasp, the crowd goes crazy and we are celebrating Reggie’s play. Except that bizarrely the referee’s have ruled that somehow it was a catch. It ...
Milano Marittima, Emilia-Romagna, Italy mavsqb1... the start. It was every show, not just the odd one. They were truly amazing and probably the best we’ve had yet. I imagine the finale was what it must be like at a rock concert - they rushed down the front dancing and screaming...all for me of course...and the rush it gave was brilliant.

Thank you so much Forli..you were great!

But no photos...sorry!
Forli, Emilia-Romagna, Italy mamma-mia... Naturally we got a t-shirt and the man showed us then his own garage with bikes he owned which was really special. He invited us for coffee but we had to get moving on. What a top day we had. Heading north we finally left the lowlands and reached the Dolomite mountains and camped by a lovely lake, Lake Garda. The lake is famous for windsurfing most of the year and the campsite catered for them. The views were beautiful of the soaring mountains behind us.
