Selangor, Malaysia xfor_service... to me from the sanctuary rangers that these old elephants have worked all thier lives including acompanying wild elephant back into the reserves giving vital comfort and emotional support to there kind. They also help to educate the local shcools in conservation( and us foreigners!) and a ride brings donatioans to fund the operation. Feeding the elephants was great, apart from the trunk slobber(or was that snot im not sure!). Handing over a few bananas or piece ...
Port Dickson, Malaysia npointing... Rachel hates bean paste, so that means I got TWO moon cakes. Don't worry mom- the moon cakes were donated by a big-wig company, probably trying to clear their conscious for polluting the water of Melaka. AND Rachel and I both made sure to leave a hefty donation at the center before we walked out. From there we headed back to our hotel to grab our luggage, and head to the bus station where we caught a night bus to Penang.
Melaka, Malaysia brianneinjapan... be on some sort of highway. A few kilometers later on and we became convinced that we were on the wrong bus, we seemed to be heading back to KL but there was nothing we could do about it now, the bus being the non-stop express version. Our worst fears were confirmed 40 minutes later when we arrived back at KL Sentral station at exactly the point we had started out from. It was too late in the day to try again to reach Putrajaya, so we gave up ...
Seremban, Malaysia heathermills... of water in places. Found a hostel near the old city. Room is weird, up a little narrow ladder, and I have to supply my own padlock, but it is cool enough with the fan going and cheap. Out on the streets again, I realise that this is the first place that I've travelled where it's immediately obvious to everyone who seems me that I am a foreigner. Malaysia is very diverse, with a majority population of ethnic Malays ...
Melaka, Malaysia marillionkm... a tenner per strand of 50 pearls! Liz later on MADE me pearl earrings!!! Then the famous Petaling street which had loads of knock offs, fake designer watches, wallets, handbags, trainers. My friends in Customs would also be interested to know that there were loads of pirate DVD's too. Next day we went to another yuppie hang out called the Curve and met up with friend, Irene for lunch and then strolled through the Saturday crafts market. It was so nice! I wish I could ...
Melaka, Malaysia kimbugsToday is my last day in Melaka and I am not updating this blog as consistently as I would like. However, I refuse to feel guilty about this lest it become a vicious pattern of laziness and regret. The time here just manages to slip so quickly through ones fingers till you notice that days have gone by and the stories have piled up. The constant stimulation of new sights, foods, people, and habitations makes the days passage almost inconsequential. A routine is developing that ...
Melaka, Malaysia pshemek... peddling us couldn't even get over the bridge so Owen had to get off and help push us over! We visited the Dutch fort that was built when they invaded Melaka and got a tour of the the local English school where all pupils have to speak English and not Malay. Later that afternoon a few of us went on a boat trip down ...
Melaka, Malaysia pitch... for some Malaysianized Ardicese retorts, poor fellow. It was so late, I stayed at Kathy's for dinner -- we ate at 9pm or so. First her parents ate, then the kids did. At 10pm, her parents sent me back. It was so late, the caretaker had locked the gate, and I had to climb over the fence. Once home, I listened to Dad, Henry, and Jay talk to Moshe and Markus. Went to bed about midnight.
