    We left Plovdiv for a long day on the bus to the city of Nesebar on the Black Sea. After a two hour drive we arrived in Stefan's hometown of Kazanlak in the Valley of the Roses. Here they manufacture 90% of the world's rose oil. The roses were done blooming, but we passed FIELDS of sunflowers and lavender. Gorgeous!! Also a couple of wagons pulled by horses with pom poms.     Ringing the changes for breakfast - Jerry had the continental (all kinds of cheese and meat and a particularly odd looking sausage) and I had the French (bit of a shock when you're expecting a croissant and it's full of chocolate, but managed to struggle through more than I should).

    ... Jerry tried the cold soup (torrator????) like runny tzatziki in a glass to be drunk through a straw. How odd - it tasted fine, and I honestly think that if I ate it with a spoon, I'd like it. But couldn't get past drinking garlic through a straw. I guess I'm not ready for Heston yet!

    On our return to Burgas we made a beeline for the wonderful-looking ice cream shop I mentioned in a previous blog entry, but unfortunately it was closed. It was only about 3pm, but it had started raining, so maybe that was why it wasn't open.
