... cab back to the hotel. It was the best ride we have had in China and we told the driver so. I don't think he understood us, but he knew we were pleased.
Dinner was at our same restaurante where there was a wedding celebration. This is the 2nd wedding we have attended (without being invited) since we arrived in China. The first was in Chengdu.
The mummy was on last night and we all were going to watch it since it was about the Terra ...
... compound to force the water to collect together.) Apparently a couple years ago they miscalculated and flooded the city... you have to wonder about the effect of fake rain, the chemicals, or taking the rain away from areas that it would have naturally fallen. For our free time, a few of us decided it would be interesting to check out Mao's Mausoleum, there are lots of people who think it is fake, or wax, but either way, it is highly revered. We were ...
Beijing, China aszliross... China is no different from Japan or Singapore. He argued that those two countries have a strong and even more oppressive government but they are willing to follow the West's lead, so they are put in a positive light. The government has an iron fist in keeping Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Tibet, and the mainland united. All in all, I was impressed with Beijing and the people here. To really feel at home, some Mandarin Chinese is necessary.
Beijing, China robrucky... of my new Chinese American friends and his friend Thomas, a Chinese American from Princeton. Ken is here working on a medical team and Thomas is a volunteer. We ate at a great Buddist vegetarian restaurant near the Lama Temple. It's an old Beijing neighborhood where we saw people playing Mahjong. After dinner we went for foot massages. That was really fabulous. While your feet are soaking, they ...
Beijing, China magsfans... feeling (which probably holds quite a bit of truth) that western media has really blown these situations and stories out of proportion. The Forbidden city was massive. I didn't realize that it would be acres upon acres....if i can remember correctly the city was 144 acres in the middle of Beijing. The area was full of Chinese tour groups who were being given a tour of pretty much every square inch of the complex. At one point i had a tour guide stop me and ...

Beijing, Beijing, China michellezhaoOn Tuesday of this week, a bunch of friends and I went out for a little bit of sightseeing after classes (it felt a bit like some sort of After School Adventure Club, although I'm sure we're much much cooler...maybe. ) to see the Beijing Underground City. The Beijing Underground City is a series of tunnels and rooms- a bomb shelter really- constructed by "volunteers" between 1969-1979, when Mao was afraid that the Soviets (or anyone) were going to drop a ...
Beijing, China katietravels... do. The tour was finished but we still had a few days in BJ. We went to the Summer Palace, a huge garden originally built only for the emporer and his family. It was hot and there was millions of people so we didn't stay long. There is a long corridor which has the most paintings in one corridor. There was a cache (www.geocaching.com ...
Beijing, China sandrasjraar... It being so much different from Hong Kong which in theory is part of China however is really a million miles apart. Though Beijing has clearly embraced capitalism in a similar way to Hong Kong. Seems like it is even more capitalistic than America, which I did not think would be that easy to do. So many people seem to be trying to sell you things, I think it's partly now that they really do have the ...
