    ... We can only work it out to be the train slowing quickly and the carriages knocking against each other.

    Day 14
    We arrived in Guiyang to grey skies, rain and another big city (we hoped we had left this behind in Chengdu) albeit much smaller than the other places we have visitied so far. For anyone wanting to travel China, its worth noting that any arrival train station will leave you ending up in a city so don't expect the peaceful countryside on arrival anywhere.

    We also were looking for our Friday lunch favourite of 'sa gou fen' . A rice dish which we enjoyed and we wanted to check the cooking method.


    We did find it, although Wenfeng (Wayne), one of Sam's postgraduate students and friend who were we were walking with, skipped us past so quickly I couldn't get him to stop. He thinks it too dirty and dangerous to eat there. We respected ...

    ... motorbike. We couldn't help thinking that if we returned to any of our cities after 20 years what changes would we notice. Certainly not the magnitude of this. When we asked about how it is financed we were told that the government is putting money into these really poor cities.

    There are so many cars that private cars are only allowed certain days of access according to their number plate.
