... police for biking on the wrong path. After the lake, I decided I'd try and visit a tea village. What ensued was my first real travel mess up of the trip. I picked up a tourist bus, but either took it in the wrong direction or missed my stop, which I only realized when I got to the terminus. Life is going fairly swimmingly for me now in Hangzhou. I feel as accustomed as I can be, because a foreigner will always be treated differently in China. Generally it is a positive thing, but as a Chinese friend told me, people will always be curious about what you do, how you act and what you wear and eat. I can function pretty well here. There are a few things I will comment about though.

... Kumbaya! Indeed, this is the message that I try to bring home to my students in China and to all of those students I taught in Newton, that we’re all a family under one sky/sun/moon! And that appreciating our similarities and differences makes us all more compassionate and respectful. IF only the world followed this example! The little news I get here is worrisome!

Another morning to awake to the beautiful songs of mountain birds and sunny skies! We are so blessed with the weather, particularly considering that it rained for 8 days in a row before we arrived here! Our hostess treated us to a fabulous breakfast this morning, perched on the rooftop of the hotel. Overlooking the beautiful fields that surround us, and the wonderful mountain backdrop.
