I woke up at just before 3.00am with a stomach ache & sore throat - so much for playing it safe! I dozed on & off until about 4.30am when the guard/attendant started walking up & down our carriage announcing that he had coffee for sale. Over the next hour or so he became more & more vocal and took to banging on our cabin door. None of us opened it or even answered him. Around 6.00am we finally arrived at our destination Lao Cai, which is just ...

Some of the touring would be a ...

Day Trip to

I decided to come all the way out to the wild outskirts of Mengzi to see the famous but not-frequently-visited BiSeZhai Old ...

Broken Birthday Bridges

... pains by the end, but I used my medical knowledge to diagnose muscular strain rather that a heart attack.

On the finished side of the bridge, workmen looked at us as if we were aliens, having no idea where we had come from. Mikey told them to hurry up building their bloody bridge and they laughed. They indicated that we could make it to a tiny village 12 miles from Manhao, but couldn’t tell us what happened after that. We could at least see there was another ...
