Halong Bay 18th January 2007 We are picked up early for our trip to Halong Bay (a UNESCO World heritage site) where we spend the night aboard the "Dragon Pearl" junk. It's a long drive but worth it as the boat is great and the scenery stunning. After a welcome drink of very sweet tea We are relieved to find our cabin is fantastic. Had breakfast on the deck of the house at the home stay and said goodbye to all the lovely villagers and we started on our 1.5 hour drive to the border. The border is up in the mountains and it is a beautiful drive, trees, mountains, and rivers running through, got to the border and I could even start to see the differences already after we had completed formalities and crossed to the other side it was just filthy everywhere.
