... other hostel and they were 3 people already that wanted to do a similar route as me. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. So bought myself a tent from an add I saw and negotiated the guy down to $30 which I thought was pretty good and took a quick shower (I didn't know when my next one would be. So we took off after we got the car and I was happy that instead of a Chico (heard it is a glorified lawn mower with four wheels) we got a Toyota Corolla for a little more ...
Windhoek, Namibia mike_bright... So I did some more internet research, and there is a service on the web that provides the password for $10. They also said, if you get the "contact your service provider" message after entering too many wrong passwords, just leave the phone on for 1-24hrs and it should open. I have left it on, and guess what, it has opened. How come T Mobile does not know this?? So I'll try to use the web service to get the subsidiary password today. Once again, thanks T Mobile!
So just one last ...
... or teasing, but a lot of it were problems unique to Africa that we've created (tribalism, mostly). It was just amazing and again left me speechless. It made me want to be an international social worker; a change in post-graduate school plans maybe? We also hung out with the Miss Namibia finalists at a children's puppet show in the childrens ward full of children with ...
Windhoek, Namibia jkbenzschawel... my hangover for most of the morning. Mum on the other hand had put her name down to go on a tour of a local township with Margaret. This she really enjoyed and met some wonderful people including a very old lady who had some great stories to tell. She came back with some lovely hand made objects as gifts and spent some time with children at the local school. The others went shopping and wandering around Swakopmund exploring the very German ...
Windhoek, Namibia therhodesies... we went for lunch & went shopping in preparation for our childrens party that evening. Had a fab night with triangle sandwhichs, cheese & pineapple sticks and cake! Yesterday we made our way into Namibia, stopping for another bush camp last night. Here, the night sky was incredible - it was so clear that we could see two galaxies amongst the trillions of sparkly stars! This morning we've stopped off in the capital - Windhoek. The difference as we drove into this ...
Windhoek, Namibia nixandliz... the ship to head into town and exchange money. Turns out one more wanted to head to the falls, a guy name Matt who was on my Iguacu trip joined us to make nine. We found a bank and I pulled out enough money for the bus ride and a few extra just in case. We decided to have a drink while we waited on our bus. We were actually waiting for the chief of police to call us back. Walvis Bay is so small the US consulate agents gave us the chief of police's personal number and he was ...
Windhoek, Namibia jpcasey... built it and nothing was too much for him. He even offered to pick us up if the car didn't make it to the airport. The garden was lovely with cacti and interesting pots dotted around and sculptures dotted around. Our room was really nicely decorated in African style with more beautiful photos and interesting pieces of Namibian art. The birdlife here was good and every day one of the staff put out seed to entice them and there was even an African Scops Owl ...
Windhoek, Namibia jowhiting... Sir, your bag has been stolen, here's the check for your coffee" Tavoite saavutettu! Mita enemman olet pakannut reppuusi arvotavaroita, sen parempi. Itse en ikava kylla saanut reppuuni kiiressa kuin kamerani, avaimeni, linkkarin (varkaiden varalle, ironista, eiko?) Harmi, olisi ollut viela passi, puhelin, mp3-soitin ja muuta m ukavaa herroilkle, ehka ensi kerralla sitten. Mutta paras on ...
Windhoek, Namibia karkailija... On the way back to the hostel, I was chatting with my guide about the American perception of Africa, and what I am actually seeing. He laughed at me and told me to stop watching CNN. Tomorrow I join up with my 10 day overland tour through the Kalahari desert through the Okavango Delta, to Chobe Game reserve and then to Victoria Falls. I am not expecting there to be much internet access, so don't be surprised if the next update is not for a while.
Windhoek, Namibia robthebruce... We prayed that night and woke up the next morning to find it worked straight away, praise God! Our favourite memories: Trekking up Dune 45 at 6am just after sunrise to see the amazing colour changes that the sun cast on the sand dunes around. We had to leave our campsite at 5am to drive the 40 miles to the dunes. Getting stuck in the sand on the 4x4 'road' (soft sand track) heading back from Dead Vlei. A German couple stopped to help us out ...
