We continue to make our way east, next stop the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan to the city of Marquette. The population was 21,355 at the 2010 census, making it the most populated city of the UP. Note: the entire UP only has a little over 311,000 residence. Marquette is a major port on Lake Superior, primarily for shipping iron ore (see picture below of train dock), and is the home of Northern Michigan University. In town we saw T- shirts and signs with "Yooper" ...

A road sign near Houghton, MI, referenced a 390" snowfall 35 years ago, and this last winter, they were below this record by just 3"!!! I continued . . . north of Ithaca . . . west of St. Louis ...

... purchases, then headed for the highway--but not before we retraced our steps and stopped at a Biggby Coffee Cafe that I spotted on the way into town! It isn't a Caribou Coffee or a Starbucks, but it is OK when none of the others is available!!

Just as we were get on the highway to head toward Marquette, I spotted a Buffalo Wild Wings!! That would have been a perfect back-up plan to The Antlers last night! POOP!

OK we're back in the 21st century and have wifi again. Who knew there were places in northern Wisconsin that don't have Wi-fi! We are in St. Ignace Michigan, " yooper" country as the locals are called, meaning those rednecks that live in the northern peninsula and those who live in the southern peninsula of Michigan are called trolls. I guess you have to visit these areas to know these facts. The Mackinac Bridge connects south to north and is the longest suspension bridge in ...
