... their uncles carpet emporium or silk shop. They don't insist on a donation to help the poor people cremate their loved ones. They don't claim racism when we don't stop to talk to them. Europe must be described in terms of 'Baroque' or 'Gothic'. There are periods of time like the Austro-Prussian War, the Roman era, the Dark Ages, Ottoman Rule, Medieval Times, the Thirty Years War, the Renaissance, the Bronze Age, the War of Independence, the Viking Age ...
Fredrikstad, Ostfold, Norway jasieniukrtwIt was surprisingly mild when we arrived at Gardemoen (airport) on this morning. None of us slept much on the plane. It is always surreal setting down into a new country. Our first plan is to record video for our TV channel, but since we were not allowed to import our equipment we need to buy it all in Oslo. Too tired today. We'll keep you up-to-date. http://www.norwaytraveltv.tv/
Vestby, Eastern Valleys, Norway frannyn... century with its medieval fortress built on top of a 63 metre high hill. But personally i felt it is the most modern town i have visited so far in Norway, with the appearance of the first internet cafe and traffic lights. Then again there is alot more traffic in Tønsberg! Firstly visited the Vestfold County Musuem although it appear interesting everything is in Norwegian apart from section on Tønsberg whaling ...
Tønsberg, Norway sd0744... the campsite i was going to use was now abandoned and the nearest one is in the nearby town of Stavern. With a few hours to kill in Larvik with rain getting persistantly heavier waiting for the next bus. I thought buses i my home village was bad with only ten a day, here there is only six here to make the 7 mile trip. There is a few things to see in Larvik Torv (centre) with a nice fountain made from the famous ...
Stavern, Norway sd0744... up was truly spectacular in the full sunlight. It started snowing and it feels like it's January and certainly not June. We pass through famous towns like Lillehammer where the Winter Olympics was held. Lillehammer is on the north end of Lake Mjosa, the largest lake in Norway. Our trained screamed down the 100 mile home stretch of our journey to Oslo. Once we arrived in Oslo we quickly found the half hour ...
Vollen, Norway victorkubik... in the water. So I tried to get it out using a stick, but I fell in. Luckily the water wasn't very cold so I was okay. My pants and shoes were soaked, but my shirt wasn't that wet, so I wrapped a blanket around my legs. I was funny, and it was fun. I will always remember going there. We had a fire and cooked pinnebrød and hot dogs. It was so beautiful and relaxing. After awhile we left and went home.
Tønsberg, Norway lfish2489... Joe's back tire went flat so he ended up dragging/carrying it most of the way back. He was a really good sport about it. Erlend and I rode ahead to see if we could get a key for the gate to the gravel road to drive the car in, but it turned out that the office at the cabin near the entrance was closed. Erlend and I stopped to pick some wild strawberries which were tiny, but very sweet. We also grabbed ...
Andebu, Norway mannalieWork was fun. I felt really motivated when I got back to the house to look up and bunch of words a memorize them. I'm getting a better idea of what vocabulary is really useful to me at this point and what can wait for later. I also feel REALLY motivated to learn Norwegian sign language because I felt soooo ignorant most of the day. Not being able to read sign is like being illiterate, and while I'm barely literate in Norwegian (if you can even call my pitiful ...
