    ... up the mountain, the clearer it got. It was amazing as the bus snaked its way up the very sharp switchbacks and past a thundering waterfall to the very nice viewpoint at the top. We drove down thru a valley and stopped at another waterfall before having lunch at a berry farm. In town, we drove to the town viewpoint.     ... timber warehouses and took the furnicular railway to the highest
    point overlooking the city. We walked down,enjoying a second day of
    spectacular weather.
    Overall impression was
    of an attractive city outside of the centre but strangely
    soulless.Seems to chime with what we have read or have been told

    ... t resist taking a photo of another manhole cover and yes this too was decorated with motifs from the Art Nouveau era.
    Doorways, windows, facades, almost every building as some reference to this era and being Sunday there were very few people around apart for the odd Saga redcoat!

    We sat for a while alongside the water admiring the art nouveau railings and got a surprise when realising the metal seat was in fact heated! I guess ...

    After a day of getting used to the constant stunning views all the way here we made our first long stop at Alesund at midday.
    Had a walk around in the snow into the pretty little port, not much to do but get used to the freezing temperature and the snow and ice.

    ... serious fire back in 1904. There is a great atmosphere & a distinctive character to the central part of the town with amazing decorations and colourful facades particularly around the waterfront domain.

    Besides touring around the city streets & wharves, we also are taken to the Sunnmore Open-Air Folk Museum to view some of the old houses and the antique boat collection, which was quite facinating.
