At the very heart of it- New York, New York

So, arrived in New York last night with a face as green as mushy peas. Despite the fact that British Airways offer brilliant on flight entertainment (I mean who doesn't love the choice of about twenty films), we are not hardcore fans of flying. We both spent the entire landing with our heads in the complimentary sick bags (though we didn't actually use them). It wasn't pretty; New York, however, is. The people are really friendly, but that's probably because they know you're going to spend lo...

To Liberty and beyond!

The Statue of Liberty is one of those must see locations in New York. If you tell people you've been to New York, they always ask you 'did you go to the Statue of Liberty?' It's right up there with the Empire State building and since we went there yesterday (though taller not as pretty as the Chrysler building), today we made the trip to Liberty Island. A word of advice, always make an advance booking. If you don't you'll end up like us and the hundreds of others who had to queue all the way ...

From one New to another.

Friday was our last full day in New York. So, on our last day it did what England usually does best... it rained. Glad that we had already seen the big outdoor attractions of the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State building, Broadway etc, we headed back to Time Square for some indoor sight seeing. Madame Tussards may be all around the world but there seemed to be an added excitement in going to the one in New York, well at least for us. That's not saying much as having breakfast in a MacDonal...

Arriving in New York

We met Amelia and Vanessa at the airport, which exactly wasn't like it was supposed to happen (like in films). They were at the other end of the airport from where we were, which means that they weren't there to greet us as we came through the doors. We ended up ringing them and we met each other eventually. I expected tears, and I wasn't disappointed. La Guardia is a tiny airport and it felt like we belly-flopped onto the runway as we landed. At least we did better than the people who ended ...

New York - Stor, Større, Størst

Endelig i USA!

New York - a fantastic city to end the trip in

If you haven't been to New York, come! If you have been here before, come again! New York is just a fantastic city to visit, and always something new you can do, taste, experience or just observe. Erik was waiting at Penn Station, good to see him again after 6 months away. Yes, this is the picture of him from Chinatown. Did not take a pic immediately when I saw him ;-) We stayed at Thirty Thirty hotel on...yes you guessed it...30th Street. Decent hotel, for me pure Western luxury after living...

Don't Even Go There!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just back from a trio to NY, I had the misfortune to stay at Hotel Thirty Thirty. Standard Rooms are dingy, dark and dank with just enough room to turn around in. Reception staff not very helpful, better hotels to be found everywhere.

Shame about the 200 College Students

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here in May 2003. The hotel was clean and in a good location to the sites. However, we had the joy of sharing our stay with hundreds of college students from all over the US! For 3 nights mayhem raged, without any action by the Hotel. Frequent calls to the front desk to complain were not actioned. The whole thing was out of control and the people in question should have been shown the door on the first night they arrived. Suggest you confirm who else is staying there before you commit! Hotel Party Party is more accurate.

Good enough

from A TripAdvisor Member
I chose the 30 30 from the online reviews and got a good internet rate - $98/nt for 2 nites. It was good - not great. I liked the lobby, the location was super - close to everything I was interested in -- but I forgot that boutique really means small. The room was truly tiny, barely enough room for the queen bed. The TV had to be mounted up in a corner of the room and there was barely enough room in the bathroom for the toilet and shower stall. It was so small the sink was outside in the main part of the room. I was staying alone but still felt like I was bumping into myself; I couldn't imagine two people in that size room. It was clean and well decorated, albeit a little sparse. I go to NYC a few times a year and it's unlikely I'll stay at the 30-30 again.

Besides, there are so many choices it's best to keep trying new hotels.

More BANG FOR YOUR BUCK AT the Hotel Thirty Thirty

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed that the Hotel Thirty Thirty and chose it because of

the GREAT rate. I was bored of the Marriott's, Hilton's, Ramada's, etc.

and had heard that the hotel was very good.It was close to EVERYWHERE I

wanted to go... easy access to subways, buses, MSG, shopping, Bryant

Park, Library, etc.But the service was excellent, the Restaurant is

GREAT (gives you a feeling of BEING in the Mediterranean!!)The only

drawback was the room is small (I stayed in a Standard Queen room).

However, I wasn't planning on spending my weekend in NYC in my

room! Also, there was no VIEW outside. Again, if I am in my room, it's

because I am either sleeping or TRYING to watching TV resting. The PROS

GREATLY outscore the CONS when it comes to the Hotel Thirty

Thirty!!Peter

Exactly what we wanted

from SoniagToronto
We just stayed at Hotel Thirty Thirty and had no idea what to expect. The room was clean and exactly what we thought. No overly spacious but not intended to spend much time in the room. Great location to anywhere in Manhatten. I would definitly stay at this hotel again. Great value!

Hotel ok, location great

from A TripAdvisor Member
Checked into Hotel ok. Room was exactly as the website displayed, yet surprisingly small. Bed quilts itchy and an awful greeny brown colour. Room had two beds, tiny wardrobe and night stand. Bathroom impressive all modern and clean. Staff unfriendly and cold towards me. We had a room which was next to the elevator shaft on 5th floor which was noisy on the 1st night as people getting on and off, running down hallways and the bells ringing on elevator. Got used to it. Felt safe and secure in Hotel but was shocked that there were no coffee/tea making facitilies and the hairdryer I was provided with was dangerous as a spark flew out the wall socket. However our Hotel was in an excellent location, 5 mins walk to Empire state and ten mins to Macy's. Lot's of places to eat in the area (as Hotel didn't even have drink machines!)Overall Hotel was ok for a four night stay but I wouldn't stay there again as I would like to try somewhere new and that provided food. God points clean (maid service every day) secure and great location. Bad points, staffs attitide, lack of facilities and small rooms.

Hotel Thirty Thirty - GREAT

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was my first time visiting New York and what a fantastic time I had, so much so that I am returning again and yes to the same hotel. Fantastic service offered, very friendly staff and the rooms are exactly as shown on the website. What more can I say

Not worth the money

from Becky080
We stayed for 2 nights at Christmas, it was in a brilliant location right up from Empire State building and 5th Ave but the service was just terrible. No reponse when calling reception, no apologies for losing our booking, tiny rooms...Not a good hotel, part of the chain including Habitat and OntheAve hotels.

Thirty Thirty Hotel - Never again

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here the week of Sept 2 for a business trip and got a good rate of $145 for a "suite." The lobby is about as warm as the North Pole in the winter which matched the attitude of the front desk staff. Room was immaculatly clean but bare bones and my "suite" had a sofa and chair in a sitting area but no coffee table or lamp which made it pretty useless. Bathroom was very nice with slate tile throughout. My view of the air shaft and mechanical units was really spectacular. The airconditioner fan was noisy and squeaked incessantly. But the worst was my last night when the Taiwanese tour group checked in at 1:00am and were all assigned to my floor. They were noisy, ran up & down the halls and open & slammed the doors to their rooms. At first I thought I was back in my college dorm. When I finally called the front desk at 3am, I was told that "this is a hotel & people check in and out." He was correct, I checked out at 4:30am for my 11:15am flight figuring I'd bee able to get more sleep at the Red Carpet Club at LaGuardia!

Lived up to my expectations!

from A TripAdvisor Member
After checking out the web site for this hotel, my 2 friends and I were excited about this inexpensive, chic looking hotel in midtown Manhattan. We were hoping it would live up to the impression that the web site created - and it actually did. The lobby was very "cool", the staff courteous and helpful. The hotel doesn't offer many amenities, but we weren't expecting much. The room itself was clean, with simple modern decor - showing it is possible to have a cheap hotel room with tasteful modern furniture. There was a sink in the room, with the toilet and shower separate, which was quite convenient with 3 girls!! I was also impressed with the Grohe shower and faucet fixtures, which shows that they didn't totally "cheap out" when outfitting the rooms. I would stay here again in a "New York minute"! A friend and her husband are staying there this coming weekend, so I'll be hoping their stay lived up to my hype also!
