A day on the water

... difficult so we tuned for Kings Beach. This put the wind at our backs and we made good progress to the shore, landing for the final time at 5.25pm. Our totals for the day were 8.5 hours start to finish and over 10 miles covered.
We returned the kayaks and headed back to Northstar. After a quick jacuzzi to relive the aching muscles we had our Safeway sandwiches for tea. I think we will all ache in the morning and sleep well tonight.

... of Yosemite, we found out that because of the Rim fire the road through Yosemite that we were to take was closed so we had to go a very long way around to Lake Tahoe it took us the rest of the day.'

... we forgot to pack. Before leaving Incline, we spent two days loading the trailer and the Expedition. The air both in Incline and in Reno is thick with smoke from the Yosemite Rim Fire. Because of this, when we are not at baseball games, we will stay in the trailer. The newscasters say to not do any vigorous exercise outside with such bad air.

Our plans are to stay in Reno ...

... drove through this river valley with an old railroad track paralleling the new one. The contrast of the wooden platforms against the dry sage bushes made it feel really "western". I listened to a very sad "This American Life" on gun violence at Harper High School in the south suburbs of Chicago.

Our hotel in Reno was truly just an interstate exit (yes, sad to say, we are back to those) ...

This means that during summer months they can ensure Category II and III rapids running out of Truckee, just to the West of Tahoe. We pitched up at 1 on Friday, and a school bus took us all out to the start of the 7 mile run.
