It was a rainy day in Seward. The Kenai Fjords tour was scheduled for today. We hit the water knowing that the weather was not optimal. Resurrection bay was calm and we saw some sea otters. As we started to venture out into open seas, the water got really rough. A few people got sick and the captain decided to turn back into the bay so we would miss out on ...
Seward, Alaska, United States pmbell64... out our place at the front of the boat and away we went. The cruise departs Seward and heads through Resurrection Bay, around Aialik Cape, past Three Hole Bay and into the Holgate Arm. At the top of the Holgate Arm is Holgate Glacier. The cruise then continues on to the Aialik Glacier and then returns to Seward past some of the islands.

The scenery was stunning! Heidi laughed at us as we had suited up in our ...
Seward, Alaska, United States usa2009aswmWell, we got up a bit sleepy but excited and were waiting outside the motel 15 minutes early. The white van pulls in and our energetic guide Heidi come out to meet us hand outstretched. A couple of hand shakes, our luggage was loaded and we hopped in the van. There were 3 people already onboard. Anne-Cecile and Nacho (a married couple from France and Spain respectively), and Ramon also from Spain who was wearing an All Blacks cap (go the All Blacks). He later ...
Cooper Landing, Alaska, United States usa2009aswmSaturday, August 9 - Seward, AK - Day 1 of 3

The drizzle could not dampen the spectacular landscape as we traveled the Seward Highway this morning from Anchorage to Seward, Alaska. We stopped at Beluga Point, not expecting to see whales, but wishing we had. There were so many "too beautiful for words" spots that I could have ...
Seward, Alaska, United States nocknock... differences between US and the East. They've been to Japan, so felt in awe about Japanese education. She thought few Americans care about education, pushing children for achievement. Interesting. I disagreed with her, but there's got to be a balance. A happy and a little stressed childhood that benefits their future life.
Seward, Alaska, United States mrduby... it was raining and the rain would continue the whole time we were there. WE checked into the Edgewater right in town. We had reserved the Bay View room with a balcony and it was great especially with the weather the way it was. The first thing we did was put on our rain gear and took a look around town. The next morning we woke up to more rain and our flight seeing tour was ...
Seward, Alaska, United States margiewilson... get which was just about 100 feet away. It was not as impressive as the Valdez glacier, so we did not spend much time here as we had another 2 miles to walk back. Being that this is bear country, we now have bells on our walking sticks to create all kinds of noise. So much for a nice peaceful walk. Back at the RV we relaxed and had a nice dinner of smoked salmon and some Indian veggies. I blogged and watched some TV - finally, some nice cable! Went to bed very late.
Seward, Alaska, United States scoonpooh... a tree, but he's gone to the trouble to put it in, so I guess he hopes the guests will use it. So, I have found myself in a glorified camping situation, and it's not very glorified. The good stuff. It's beautiful. The cove is really a spectacular piece of property, and the water around here is normally calm and easy to paddle in. There is a trail that leads over the top of a mountain, and on a clear day (good luck finding one of those in Seward) there is apparently a ...
Seward, Alaska, United States jumpintb... bad weather
and sit on the top deck as we take many pictures of the mountains,
fjords, glaciers and wildlife around us. From the boat we saw many sea
gulls, a sea otter, sea lions sitting on the rocky cliffs, and some
dall sheep on tops of the mountains. The sea was very choppy and b/c of
the bad weather and 4-6ft waves, our boat could not get close enough to
the glaciers in the water, we can only see them from far away. I have ...
Seward, Alaska, United States gnatalia... of town - not a happy Alex. After we'd dumped the bags we went on a little wander along the front and to a pretty waterfall and generally chilled out. Dean: Seward is really nice - it reminds me of the places my parents us to take us on holiday down in Dorset and Devon. The hostel is really nice and really friendly, with some other travellers there as well. Saw my first Sea Otter!!!
