We paid for a late check-out at the City Gate Hotel in Hanoi, so that we would have a room to return to during the day to freshen up. Our flight was not until 7.30pm so we had some time to wander around.Guy managed to find some software he had been looking for and I spent our entire holiday budget on one painting. Ouch!!! But it is an original and very good. I just love it!!!! Luckily, Guy did too so he wasn't cross with me.We managed to reach the airport without too many incidents and the fl...
Hoi An, Vietnam alene We've been taking it easy for the last couple of days as my stomach has been quite queasy and i've had to break into the medicine cabinet we've been carrying around, which takes up half of our luggage for 3 months of voyage.
I haven't eaten much for the last 2 days, which for those who know how much i love food, know this is very painful for me. So much good food, so little ability to savour it. I am simply not hungry and Pierre will be trying to force feed me a bit since we've got a l...
We are in Hoi An now! It’s SO much better than Saigon, I could stay here the whole time. We are going to China Beach in a few minutes. Internet access is not as good on the iPhone, but there are still computers downstairs that we can use. Binh’s family owns the hotel, restaurants, and several tailor shops. Apparently this is the place to be if you want clothing made, and oh, do I ever! Will pick out some fabric later today! I brought one of my favorite skirts for them to copy - th...
Hoi An, Vietnam drjustinaWe have been in Hoi An since Sunday, and every day someone takes us to some family member’s restaurant and we eat amazing food. We literally have spent no money since arriving here. We just got back from Binh’s cousin’s restaurant (the sister of Quynh, the one who owns the clothing shop) and she absolutely spoiled us with goodness. We even went for the ice, which we may regret later. I had an iced coffee (my first here so far and it was yummmmy), and an almond vanilla soda. ...
Hoi An, Vietnam drjustina Today we went to the beach! I guess it isn't technically China Beach, that's a little further north, between Da Nang and Hoi An. This one is called Cua Dai Beach. The sand is still white (and hot), and the water is clear and lukewarm. I didn't do much swimming because there were jellyfish, unfortunately, and I did feel some stinging. But it was gorgeous.
Binh, Sam, Quoc, Theresa and I all walked to the beach, a little over 3 miles. It was early enough that it wasn't too hot yet. The sa...
We’re still waiting for the driver to take us to Quang Ngai, so I thought I’d hop on here for a few minutes.
Yesterday after my dip in the pool, we went back to the tailor for more fittings. I ended up spending almost 2 hours there, getting a mani/pedi and everything. :) I keep wanting to give you a clothing count but I’m sure I’ll forget something, so I’ll wait until everything’s done and delivered. Oh, and yeah, they deliver everything to our hote...

Hoi An, Vietnam karkadeHoi An Blog - Week 1 - 7-14 March 2009 We arrived in Hoi An about 8.30 pm 7th March, via Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, to begin our 9-month volunteering stint for Karen Leonard's Lifestart Foundation www.lifestartfoundation.org.au. We were met at Da Nang airport by Karen's adopted sons, Tu and Sinh, and a 4WD for our luggage, which just exceeded the weight limit but was allowed. The trip to Hoi An normally takes about 30 minutes, but we had a flat tyre shortly after setting off. No problems, ...

2nd September
Went for our fittings and was so impressed I ordered another dress and shirt :) Later we hired some bikes and cycled to a nearby deserted beach which would have been really nice but it rained so we didn't stay long. We biked around the town and visited some of the World heritage buildings before our second lot of fittings.
It is a national ...
