Dalat in the Southern Highlands

PICTURES FOR THIS ENTRY ARE IN THE FIRST ENTRY - FROM DARWIN - DON'T KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED. So up nice and early to get t o Sinh Cafe for the bus to Dalat - got up early as i don't think i really got to sleep laying on the 'rock' mattress, but ya get that. Bus was due in to Dalat at 13:30 but i had my doubts!! The trip seemed to take forever to get out of Saigon which i guesss isn't oo surprising considering the size of the place and the traffic conditions. Soon found ourselves climbing some...

The people here look entirely different from the Vietnamese elsewhere...the Lat tribe founded the town years ago and moved back into the mountains once the town became popular. We ha...

Delightful Dalat

... we rode to Lak Village with the wind picking up while riding down the hills felt like it was going to push us off. Just as we arrive the weather got worse and started to chuck it down. Quickly deciding to head back as the weather did not look like it was just passing. We thought we would see if we could leave Dalat this afternoon to Mui Ne. There is no bus in the afternoon just the 0745 the next morning.

Only having the bike for two hours and having to push it to the ...

... can spin between 800-1000 meters of silk; when they're good and ready, the cocoons are thrown into hot water and the silk thread is spun into a wheel. When there's enough thread, the wheels are put into a loom which then weaves the thread into silk material. In its original form, it's a very peaceful white colour; it is then dyed into various colours. What do you do with the dead silkworms you ask? Well, they eat'em! Are you surprised? They sell them ...

... to peddle round the lake (Aly's dream for the last few days). Turns out (just our luck..) that we've rented the only cast iron swan in Vietnam and have a fantastic time getting overtaken by grandmas making half the effort!
That night we treated ourself to a bottle of the local red wine (100,000VND, roughly 3.30GBP) to help us forget our sore legs and it turns out to be quite nice - although not being a wino, if its not undrinkable, It all tastes the same to me...

Its Hells Angels Time!!
Alright there folks,

Hope you all are well. Alls grand with us. Since the last blog we did a lovely bus journey across the Mekong delta to Saigon (everyone in southern Vietnam stills calls it that). It was lovely crossing the delta and seeing all the small villages and towns that depend on the delta for their livelihood. Would have loved to spend a day or so there but as we are on a tight schedule we had to press on. Saigon is absolutely mental. There ...

... first so that I wouldn't chicken out. I slipped twice on my way to the waterfall edge, that's how slippery the water makes the rocks. After I was completely fitted into my harness, I worked my way painstakingly to the end of the waterfall. I didn't dare look back. I started over the edge, the water pouring over my feet as they clung to the slick rock. I made it about six or seven steps before I fell the first time, my feet easily slipping down the rock and leaving me ...

... hilly town. Had very bizarre weather throughout the day; started off very cool, rain showers that lasted about a minute or two throughout the day, moments of intense heat, and random gust storms. Never put a damper on the day; was actually nice not to be dripping sweat and having to change my clothes three times a day.

Saw a lot of wacky sites to go along with the bizarre weather.
