... out to dinner for as long as humanly possible and were able to dine at an authentic Basque restaurant. It was 8 o'clock, yet we got one of the first tables at Txotx, a traditional Basque cafe, recommended by our guide. By the time we left - closer to 10, the place was filling with locals. ... the heart of French Basque Country. The Basque influence, language and culture spans the region over both France and Spain. Bayonne has served as a fortress for various cultures over the millennia and has various fort and wall fragments left over from Roman, French and English occupations all through the old part of town. We met our tour group (only ...

... was French and was also doing walks in the Pyrenees - I couldn't work out if he was just starting or finishing his walking adventure. I noticed that the were more industries in this area - we seemed to go past about 4 cement and gravel works, there were lots of heavy machinery places and one place where there were mountains and mountains of corn cobs. I even say a semi trailer later on filled to the top with corn cobs and no cover or netting to keep the load in. I grabbed a taxi ...
