    ... we found a group of Syrian refugees camped in the open. The town authority had given them portaloos and they had mattresses and bedding to sleep on. There were a number of children playing happily on the grass.

    ... from the Greek tour will be there and I can go for a day trip down to Pompeii which is the only place in Italy that I still really wanted to see. Boom trip to Rome booked!! Decision made and fight booked at 1am ready to leave the hostel at 7am the next morning to fly at midday. Probably the most spontaneous decision I've ever made (I'm not very adventurous). Got no accommodation booked but I'm sure it will work itself ...

    ... Thankfully it was as safe as houses; not a sign of aggression or dodgy behaviour in any of the youngsters. At about 0630 when the flies got too much, we picked up a toasted ham and cheese for breakfast and then wandered back to the port to wait for another 2 hours on a marble bench. Finally, the doors to the ferry port station opened and were able to get into the cool away from the sun.

    Monday morning we docked in Naples and after a rushed breakfast as was usual doing daily tours we took a bus ride to Sorrento passing Mount Vesuvius, still active and which could erupt again at any time. The drive was amazing by bus through extremely narrow and winding roads, cars stopping to let the bus continue down the roads etc. We thought the driver needed a medal and told him so! After many pictures of this absolutely beautiful paradise ...
