... in, so I'm glad I made the decision to get it out while we had the chance. Why did I need to return to the marina? Well, in our rush to get her out before the sun set we forgot that the dinghy outboard was in heated storage at the marina. Doggone it! The car was already packed to the roof, now I need to fit an outboard inside???

It's great to see her without all the snow and ice and with the bimini up. The ...

Christmas Town

My last full day in Virgina, we decided to take in the Christmas Town displays at Busch Gardens. Unfortunately, Logan and Kegan both had to work, so Eric, Dawn, Kylie and I headed out right after dinner last night.
We walked the entire park. I took a lot of pictures, most without using the flash, so please excuse ...

We were joined by a couple of Eric and Dawn's friends for the evening to enjoy the late football game and some delicious leftovers.
Spending time with the family is what I call a good retirement plan. ...

... I am sure this is probably boring to most, but I spent my first 4 years in the Marines as a truck driver, so I am partial to this type of stuff. I found it very interesting.
It was another quiet night at Eric and Dawn's, as all 3 grandkids had to work tonight. Dawn and I enjoyed a pizza dinner and watched "Man of Steel".
All in all, a very good day. ...

Return to Virginia

... mile rides that I was working on before. My goal is 25 miles in under 2 1/2 hours. Won't be this week, I am thinking. My grand kids just left for a double feature showing of the Hunger Games tonight. It will be just Dawn and I for dinner tonight, as Eric is on an inspection tour this week. It is great watching these dynamic kids work around a busy school, work and social schedule. I am really enjoying my time with family. Life is ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Williamsburg Inn-Colonial Williamsburg

    The best!

    from

Please note that some of the bad reviews on here are inaccurate... the reservation system is for ALL of historic Williamsburg. The person who complained about the receptionist was NOT speaking to someone at the Williamsburg Inn (where they will bend over backwards for you). And someone else reviewed the Williamsburg Lodge...which is NOT the Williamsburg Inn.

Williamsburg Inn (Providence Wing) a mixed bag

    from

We stayed for 3 nights May 2-5, 2004. The pluses: great location, right in Colonial Williamsburg, very convenient. The Providence Wing was somewhat less expensive than the rooms in the Inn, and our room on the West (?) side, second floor, facing the pond, had its own deck overlooking very lovely view; the rooms on the other side of the hall would have had a view of the tennis courts instead--not nearly as nice. The room was large, and the bed reasonably comfortable. The reservation process through Colonial Williamsburg was great--they make sure that you book your "evening programs" and dinner reservations at the colonial taverns (if you want them) well in advance so you won't be disappointed. The negatives: it's time to refurbish the room itself. The carpet was coming up in one corner, the a/c was noisy, the baseboards were badly chipped...not quite what you'd expect for an over-$300/night room. But again, you're paying for the great location, and the money goes to the Colonial Williamsburg foundation for operations, so it's for a good cause.

    A great retreat

    from

Our original plan was to stay in one of Williamsburg's Colonial Houses, which was much better in the anticipation than the execution. As nice as the idea is, our lodgings just weren't all that comfortable. We then moved to the Providence Wing of the Williamsburg Inn for the remainder of our stay and were completely pleased. This area is separate from the Inn and considerably less expensive. Our room was huge, well appointed and even had a fireplace that the staff set up and lit for us each night. No doubt, considering the price, the Inn is nicer, but the Providence Wing rooms are excellent at any price.

    The Lodge across the street

    from

We stayed in the Lodge, which is the "family" section of the Inn across the street. We had our children 8 and 9 who loved Historic Williamsburg and the indoor pool at the hotel. The heat was broken on in our room and the repair crew took until the next day to repair it. Staff was unhelpful when we had a problem with the restaurant reservation system.

We has a 7:45 dinner reservation made through the hotel but when we arrived at 7:30 we were advise that we would not have a table until 9.

Thats a long time to wait with kids. The room was spacious, the bathroom small but ok. The hotel is nothing special but very close, 1/2 block to the Historic District. We would stay again.

    Rude Reservation Desk

    from

My family will be visiting CW for Thanksgiving. I should have known better, because I had dined here many years ago with a less than pleasing experience. But, I decided to try to make reservations for Thanksgiving Dinner in the Regency Room. Unfortunately I talked to the most rude reservationist. I apparently asked a question and disturbed her quiet morning. I had the nerve to not know that she arranges reservations for several restaurant in CW and they definitely did not have room for my reservation at the Regency Room on Thanksgiving Day. I will happily take my family for an enjoyable dinner elsewhere.

    What A Treat!

    from

My husband and I visited Williamsburg last December for a conference and had the best trip ever. We were treated like royalty when we arrived at the Williamsburg Inn. We were personally escorted to our room in the very quiet Providence Wing. We loved the privacy of this separate area of the hotel overlooking a peaceful little pond. It was somewhat cold and rainy when we were there, so coming back in the evening to our retreat with the Bose radio playing soft music, the bed turned down and thick robes waiting for us was very welcome.
