... to the fact that we were not destined to see lions in Africa. All of a sudden Lisa caught sight of some Impala looking intently… then we saw them we could not believe it. We drove off the track and into the bush a little and came upon eight lionesses just laying under a tree. We switched off the car, grabbed the binoculars and sat watching them watching us. Talk about make the last four days slog worth the effort, we were stoked.
North Luangwa National Park, Zambia harryabroadOnce again the road maps helped us out!!! Not..headed into Chipata and then the turn off to South Luangwa Nation Park.. at least this time there was a road however it had corrugations like I had never seen before.. I could only get the Shorty up to 50Km/hr above that the back end wanted to swap with the front.. less than 50 and my eye's could not focus.. not so bad only lasted for 110km's..

Arrived and decided to stay at a place called Track & trails ...
Mfuwe, Central, Zambia harryabroad... as the day went on, really this campsite points out the good side to the 'TIA’……. though in Africa things don’t run on time i.e. flights, buses etc, and also theres so much poverty and disease spread, and people have a low standard and low quality of life, there is an amzing side to ‘TIA’ where you are in the stuning wild with the anaimals on the doorstep when you like onto the countryside to the hills when on the truck you sometime fel you ...
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia courtersit took 4 hours to 'croc valley' which is the campsite we are staying at for 2 nights. we are off to 'luangua national park' for another game park! on the way down the mud dirt track road we stopped off at a local village as a part of the truck had to be sorted, it was great to mingle with the locals and they are genuinely lovely people just like Ugandans, they are not after your money, we did give the kids some sweeties which they wre all scrambling for!

croc park when ...
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia courters... friendly people. Mfuwe is quite a busy town/village, no supermarkets but lots of small shops many of which are called 'shopping centre', but not like we consider a shopping centre to be.

We just followed the signs to The Wildlife Camp and boy were we in for a pleasant surprise. Wow is what can be said about the position of the pitch where we put the tents, we were overlooking the Luangwa River which is ...
Mfuwe Zambia, Central, Zambia neilandchrisOk everyone finally we get to blog! Internet has been tricky at \megan's house and since she hasnt been at work we've been disconnected. We did hear of \Michaels' Jackson's death however this morning.
So a quick catch up. Our flight was fine except for the fact that Christina got sick to her stomach around hour 10. Before that, the 9 hours went pretty quick. We arrived in Lusaka pretty hard up but thrilled to see Megan. We went immediatley to an American ...
Mfuwe, Central, Zambia mschloot... they had picked up on many aspects of the holiday including the fact that I cannot see a giraffe or I won't come back! Funny! We have just had another fab meal of steak and salad along with smores - marshmallows melted in the fire and then squashed between two choc biscuits - fantastic!! The lions have been roaring on the other side of the river - the loudest so far - lets hope we can find them tomorrow!
South Luangwa, Zambia, Zambia emmaw... irish contingent again meeting a group of four i had met at the falls. after the safari, which was amazing seeing 2 leopards and then some lions mating and hyenas which i really wanted to spot. and the stars were incredible as this is real rural zambia and the heavens were lit up. after getting back i set up my tent on a platform in the trees. they have these platforms because hippos and elephants are daily visitors. it was incredible sleeping ...
Mfuwe, Zambia seangreif... and hippos. The rays of the setting sun shone out from behind the dense clouds and it was the most amazing, vast sky you have ever seen. There really is something different about the African sky - it's so much bigger and you feel so much smaller. It's a humbling experience. We really enjoyed each other's company during our three days in Zambia. It was a wonderful time to relax and recharge before heading back to Lilongwe to start up camps once again.
Mfuwe, Zambia priceandjanie... and a hyena steals the drum skin which is made of leather. Every drummer has their own style, all are very rhythmic. The dinner table is set beside the waterhole behind the camp and surrounded by kerosene lamps (there is power here but electric lights haven't been put all around the camp yet). Silver Service yet, bone handled knives, silver forks and two waiters, seems somewhat incongruous!!! Especially when combined with a very good Thai meal..... Did the usual where are you from stuff ...
