Notes from Diane and Russ

A picture (s) is worth a thousand words, but since I lost most of my good pictures I give you Diane for the thousand words... WOW! The Orchard's have found the ideal setting for an urban and wilderness adventure...steps from their front door. Saturday was a very good day...was that yesterday?...We popped out of a bike ride around Stanley Park and stepped into "ze plane" waiting in the harbor, just hundreds of feet away, and in view of their home. Captain Rick flew us away to Whistler, where w...

On to Tofino!

When you look at a map of Vancouver Island and see where Tofino is in relation to Victoria, it seems not so far away...well, even without stops (which we always have plenty of time for), it is a 4-1/2 hour drive north from Vancouver then west over the mountains running up the spine of the island. All the good stuff...even snow...more on that later. We got up pretty early and decided to take our act on the road right away. After loading up the car, we headed off for breakfast and the road. We ...

A Very Blustery Day...

We awoke this morning to a very stiff wind (maybe 20-25 kts) out of the southwest. The positive part is that it kept the clouds and moisture away - the day was bright and pleasant (when not on the beach). Temps were cool, not really getting out of the 40s. All in all, breezy but nice. We hung around the room in the morning while I participated in a conference call for work (no, it's never too far away), then decided to head into town for a tour of the art galleries. Keeping to our normal trav...

Eagles and Tidepools

**Sorry...got "busy" and neglected this for a couple of days...T** This morning, we got an early jump on the day since local low tide was scheduled for about 6:20. With the multiple rock outcrops and relatively large tide swing (about 7 feet today), we felt it would be a great opportunity to investigate tidepools - really neat and varied mini-ecosystems that continuously rely on changes in depth and water circulation. Thankfully, yesterday's winds were a thing of the past and conditions were ...

The Ragged Edge of North America

Wow...awesome...cool...terrific...RELAX ING!! We've spent the last two days in the lap of luxury here at the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino...truly a five-star resort perched on the rocks over the Pacific Ocean. To say that this place delivers great service in an unforgettable setting is too much like an advertisement. To give you an idea of the impression it left on us, we immediately extended the vist an additional day! As a result we needed to swap rooms...here are some views off the balcony o...

Historical Traveler Reviews of The Wickaninnish Inn Tofino

Excellence, I cannot wait to go back and I will!

from skidawg
The Wickaninish Inn is a wonderful place. The attitude is so calming and the service was exceptional. We adore the place and cannot wait to return. The place is beautiful and very romantic. The view from the rooms and the Pointe were majestic. The food was outstanding. I loved it! My wife and I were there for our honeymoon and we are returning this year for our anniversary. Go to the hot springs and take the sea plane!

Relaxing Break

from A TripAdvisor Member
Spent Christmas 2003 at this resort. We found it to be excellent overall with fantastic service. All the rooms have a ocean view, there was a storm our first night there which was amazing to watch. The power did go out and wasn't restored in the rooms until sometime later that day however the kitchen had power so the only inconvenience was going down to breakfast with wet hair. The service in the Pointe Restaurant was excellent, however we found the food at the Long Beach Resort was a little better. This could be because the chef at the Pointe was new and maybe he needs a little time to source out the best local ingredients. The stocking filled with goodies that was left on our bed Christmas Eve and the complimentary continental breakfast left outside our door Christmas Day were nice little touches. They also gave us a little parting gift of some handmade truffles when we checked out. If you are looking for a totally relaxing vacation, this is it!

Highly recommend

This place is to die for!!! Absolutely fabulous! Excellent location, accomodations, and service!! What more can one ask for!! I highly recommend a Beach Suite in the new building --- the views are exceptional!!

Spectacular and romantic

from A TripAdvisor Member
We dropped in for a room about a month ago, and, while it was a little expensive and we had to wait for housekeeping to finish cleaning the room at 4:30pm, it was superb. The views, room ambience and staff service were excellent. The Pointe restaurant was a little pretentious and expensive but again a spectacular place to watch nature through glass. A honeymooners dream. For people wanting to enjoy a hardy day beachcombing or hiking in the nearby park a few meat and potatoes type dishes on the menu would have been aprapos.

The best of the best in every way. A trip to the Wick is a trip to a place you will never forget! Mike and Julie

The Wick lives up to it's billing

from MusicTraveler
I have to admit it, my wife and I are spa addicts. We've been to them for years, at some of the finest resorts in North America, but the Wick's spa really took things a step above the rest. The quality of the facilities, and the knowledge and courtesy of the staff were simply outstanding. I'll be back, and will be scheduling a lot more time in the spa.

The WICKED Wickanninish

from A TripAdvisor Member
The scenery is beautiful and the spa is outstanding BUT... I was disgusted, and appaled at their attitudes. This hotel has rules and regulations that are unjustified. I felt like I was a student with a mean teacher. They are rude and unaccomadating. I will NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone but my enemies.

Take Your Breath Away!!!

from palmettosojourner
My wife and I celebrated our25th anniversary at the 'Wick' January 21-28,2000. We were met at the Tofino airport by 'Wick'owner and valet. Upon entering the inn through massive cedar doors,we were stunned by the view of Pacific Ocean through foyer window.Upon entering our corner premier room (309),we were both speechless. Ocean,waves,rocks,fireplace,glass-shielded balcony,two-person soaker tub w/full ocean view glass, view of secret cove,180 degree glass view!!!! Reasaurant was very cordial w/requests for modifications. On several occasions we had dinner delivered to our room by the chef staff. Breakfast was delivered daily (by request) and was fabulous. With only a few hours notice we were escorted into Tofino to shop, dine, floatplane by Dan or Mike. On two occasions they even went into town and shopped for us! Turn down service with fresh bathrobes, bottled water, and fabulous fruit basket daily was fastidiously done. Absolutely the best lodging experience of our lives!!! Even after three and one-half years. jbl

Horrible Customer Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were forced, due to war, to cancel our reservation at the Wick, and they adamantly refused to let us reschdule, and kept our $300 deposit. Totally inappropriate and irresponsible behaviour - which they justified by saying there was no "domestic threat". I would strongly advise against booking with them due to a total lack of sensitivity.

Luxury on the Edge of the Earth

from A TripAdvisor Member
Wow! This place is on the edge of the earth, and it is totally integrated into its environment. Hard to get to, but worth every minute of the trip (which itself is worth it). The premier room in which we stayed had the most gorgeous view I have ever seen, and a bald eagle's nest in plain view to boot. We watched him fish for three straight days. The Ancient Cedars Spa is like none other. A true experience. The Pointe Restaurant left a bit to be desired, but there is adequate fair in nearby Tofino. I am going back to the Wick this year!
