    ... claim to be the smallest in Britain but I know I've seen smaller! Motoring around the dales and moors has been spectacular and it is easy to see why hiking is so popular here. Even the dreaded Industrial sites don't detract too much from the splendour of the area. On the coast the cliffs are magnificent. Lots of exercise on this little side trip accompanied by more fun and laughter, memories of past times and (I admit) too much ...

    ... any electricity or running water, so are more or less a storage shed for beach gear. The couple told us they live about 1 hr away and come here on weekends and stay in a nearby caravan park just so they can use their hut. They sounded like they really enjoyed the weather even if it was freezing to us. Certainly nowhere near sun baking temperature and they were also wearing jumpers!

    ... Great Ayton as it is the boyhood town of Captain James Cook and there are a number of monuments and museums dedicated to him.

    ... going to go out to sea on a boat. A few companies were offering 20-30 minute trips, just out to a buoy a mile outside the harbour entrance and back again. The first we saw was an old lifeboat. (Rescue services are really big here - there have been a lot of shipwrecks in the past, and I imagine there would still be plenty of people getting into trouble in these waters.)
