    ... directions from a book and once again it was crossing the cow paddock that challenged us. We will be expert status soon - we actually found our way back to the Lighthouse Bar where we met Mick & Karen, friends of Geoff & Shirley, for a few drinks.

    And it is 8:30pm, still broad daylight and we are still in short sleeves!

    Off to the Cotswolds tomorrow with a night in Chipping Norton before returning to London.

    ... we expected. We saw a crowd of people near the river so we walked down for a look. There was an orchestra playing in the bandstand and it was beautiful sitting in the sunshine by the river, watching the boats sail by and listening to great music.     ... died. The names of the victims are recorded in a memorial wall and memorial plaques have been placed around the area by relatives of the victims. We rode down the street where the wreckage devastated the buildings and killed the local residents before visiting the Town Hall to see the stained glass window.

    Carlisle was only about 60 km from Lockerbie so we arrived early, did some washing and hung it on the clothesline to dry while we had a Greggy Dinner ...

    ... to shine for us, and on our way back to our room we headed up the hill at the end of our street to get yet another amazing view of the lake. We had only time for a short rest before dinner - the Angel Inn for a pub meal to finish our visit to the Lake District.     ... the main street, had the obligatory coffee stop, then headed off to Grasmere, which lived up to its claim of being a very pretty village. We tried in vain to find the start of a recommended walk, but ended up doing our own version. It was still cold, but at least it wasn't raining.
