San Diego ohne Worte

San Diego (CA) - Volledige dag

Hail all! Just a quick one as we have no wifi in our hotel room, (which is another slice right out of a horror film; flimsy windows and grubby guests with a thirst for violence), so I am stealing wifi from a beach bar. In short, it was a looooong drive which sat nav said would take only four hours, but it said it for the first two hours. Lots of nothingness as we left Nevada and scooched into California. We drove ...

Day 5

A travel blog entry by gemteacherevans

As breakfast was later at the Hillcrest it forced us to start getting into a more regular routine and we managed to lie in until 8am!
Downstairs the table was set with a yummy variety of goodies- freshley baked muffins, fruit, toast and cereal with freshly brewed coffee and juices. We chatted to the other residents and met a couple from Cumbria before going to get ready for our day ahead. We were able to navigate the bus system to get to today's destination- ...

    Not my choice

    from anonymous

This was my first stay at the Westin (Feb. '04) as I prefer the Marriott Marina or even the Courtyard Downtown, but a trade show in the hotel meant staying here made things easier. Unlike some other reviews, I found my room (15th floor, 'preferred guest' room) to be excellent - good sofa and chair, nice desk (although not up to Marriott standards), reasonable bed, good bath. The public areas, though, left much to be desired. No lobby to speak of, dirty, dingy corridors, peeling paint, etc. Restaurant & room service menus were laughable. While the plaza does offer food (mostly 'fast food' with one overly pretentious table-service place), I expect a supposedly first class hotel to offer a decent selection of food. I won't be staying here again.

    Wonderful Staff, Excellent Hotel

    from anonymous

The staff, everyone from the front desk to the chamber maids could not be any friendlier. We stayed for a week, and they treated us like family every day. The rooms were nice, the location is great, a very short walk to Horton Plaza and the GasLamp, and the bar has good pub food too. A little expensive to park, but otherwise fantastic. I would go back anytime.

    Not worth the PRice

    from anonymous

My husband and I stayed there in October of last year. Fortunatly we only paid $100 using priceline. The room was dingy and dirty. I was very disappointed and only consoled with the fact that we didn't spend the normal $200 to $250 a night their rooms go for. The Manchester Hyatt is head and shoulders better than this hotel.

    Good Location Poor Service

    from WDW2000

When we booked a room at the Westin Horton Plaza our expectations were very high, especially since this is a Starwood Property. I had booked a "Deluxe" Room w/ free breakfast months prior to my arrival. When I checked-in, I assumed I would get what I had paid for, but upon arriving in the room I found a disaster!! Fresh Urine stains on the chair, cigarrette burns and coffee stains all over the place and to my astonishment this was definitely not a "Deluxe" Room. When I called the front desk, I told them about my disappointment and I was simply told that NO Deluxe rooms were available so basically I was given a downgrade!! Why wasn't this mentioned when I checked in?? I was stuck with what had to be the worst , dirtiest room I had ever stayed in and was only offered a $10 discount per night and complimentary breakfast. (Remember, I had originally paid for a complimentary breakfast so this was no comp) Being a Starwood Preferred Plus member I would have thought I would have given a upgraded room or at the very least the room I had paid for. All this being said, the Location is Very Nice!! Horton Plaza steps from the front lobby. I would never stay at this property again, especially not a Smoking room. Also, wrote the management and never received a response.

Right in the middle of everything!

    from traveler

Recently spent one night while passing through San Diego. The hotel is great- nice rooms, friendly staff and right in the middle of shopping, nlughtlife, etc in San Diego. Close to Sea World and other San Diego attractions. Would definetely recommend staying here if you are doing sightseeing in San Diego.

    Close to shopping and dining

    from LALPERTESQ

The Westin is fine if you are interested in shopping at the next-door Horton Plaza and dining in the Gaslamp Quarter; it's ideally located for both. However, the hotel rooms need reburbishing; the rug in our room was threadbare, and I found the "heavenly bed" a bit soft for comfort. The hotel does not have many TV channels selection either, much to my kids' dismay. However, the health club was fantastic; many treadmills, several bicyles including recumbents, a stepper, and weights. The indoor pool was a nice size and not too cold either.

    Enjoyed my visit

Great location. Very comfortable beds. Loved the showers! Elevators were a bit slow though. I would stay there again.

    Nothing special

    from anonymous

My husband and I were just looking for a nice overnight getaway in downtown san diego. The best thing I can say about the Westin was its location. Practically in the Horton Plaza, it was great for shopping. Upon arrival we asked if they had any upgrades available which we would have gladly paid for. We were told no. When we entered our "deluxe" room we were somewhat disappointed in our accommodations. Definately not the nicest Westin facility. We could have overlooked the fact that no two pieces of furniture matched, however, I could not overlook the used toothpick on the bathroom counter of the toilet paper in the toilet or the sticky stained countertops that had not appeared to have been wiped down. Oh, and did I mention there were dirty smudge marks by the toilet flush? We went to the front desk and complained and we were given an upgrade to a junior suite. (after they had none available 10 min prior) This room was nicer and more spacious and also a nice view of the city with three walls having large windows, as well as a balcony. The only problem was being awaken at 2am by a large loud party in the only room next to us. The noise was so loud it seemed as if they were in our room. I phoned the front desk and complained and they said they would send security up. No security came so I phoned a second time. Didn't do much good. Party went on until 5 am .Definately would not stay at this hotel again. Parking is $20 a night.

    Great Location

Lovely rooms, friendly staff, excellent location close to shops and Gaslamp restaurants. Rooms large. Hate to encourage their advertising campaign but their "Heavenly" beds and showers are great!!!

    Fantastic Stay at the Westin

    from anonymous

We had a wonderful experience at the Westin Hotel. I was a little concerned the downtown location would be too noisy, however, the front desk gave us a wonderful corner room on the top floor that was extremely quiet. The staff was extremely courteous and accommodating. The one drawback to the hotel was that some of the furnishings are beginning to show wear. I would definitely stay here again. It's a great central location in the city.
