Fort Flagler State Park

... batteries and looking at all of the spectacular views Fort Flagler offers by sitting on a bluff overlooking the Puget Sound. We didn’t go into any of the historic buildings, except for the museum/store. I recommend a trip inside the museum so that you can read about the history of Fort Flagler. I also love looking at old photographs of the Fort in it’s hey day.

Fort Flagler is kid and pet friendly.

... the pieces of the 787 inside! It's huge and the tail opens like a door so that the 787 pieces can slide in and out on conveyors!

In the late afternoon we drove to Bellevue on the eastern side of Lake Washington. We visited the Bellevue Botanical Garden. The drive back to Seattle at sunset was amazing. We had dinner in Seattle at Von's, fantastic food!

New front shoe

Well, another oil change and a new front tire. Skagit Valley Polaris folks couldn't be nicer. My, how the money flies. Hard to believe the big fella is over 13,000 mi old now. Ran an errand in Bellingham and now riding south along the coast (Chuckanut Dr and Rte 11 - ah, the evergreen scent) to Anacortes. The road is glorious with twisties ...

... Washington. What a beautiful location! Surrounded by lakes, rivers, and mountains, one of them including Mt. Baker, it is one of the most picturesque places I have been to. After ooing and awwing at his collection of classic planes, models, and cars, I was invited to fly in his biplane. Unfortunately, they had some problems getting the plane started, but it didnät matter, I was able to fly in an equally beautiful plane, a 1936 Fairchild (colors ...

... broken all local records of over seven inches in one day and this just accentuated the concern of global climate change that hangs over our pilgimage. But luckily we were at the moment walking through what people here describe as the rain shadow of Olympic Mountains which shielded this whole stretch of the coastline from the storm. (We have since called the campgrounds where we plan to stay south of Olympia and all are open.) We then hopped on a bus for the rest of the way ...

A Long Time to Be Gone + a Short Time to Be There

M: As we flew back into Seattle, I kept whining, it's over. We're all finished. The green of spring here rose up to meet us and I thought, it's back to real life, back to everything we left behind. But so much has changed. Seattle is different. The little bits of day-to-day living that none of us think of as being all that much different from one moment to the next make a difference. It's like being a visitor all over again only weirder because I supposedly live here ...

Port Townsend, Victorian seaport

... Took a number of brochures and maps with me. The entrance to Port Townsend suggests it was at the base of a silt cliff, which lead me to wonder what river created that area. Of course, it could have been uplifted from the floor of the ocean as sedimentary silt as well. More questions which will probably remain unanswered. While I have been there before, I absolutely loved the environment and could probably stay for days and days ...

... can board, including the Concorde. This morning we headed out to the Boeing factory at Everett, north of the city centre. This is the only Boeing site which is open to the public. Security is very tight and you are unable to take anything with you, including handbags, backpacks, cell/mobile phones, pages, electronic games of any description. If you were to be found carrying anything it would be confiscated and, if you were lucky ...
