This suited us fine for an overnight stop well on the way to Rocky Mountain NP. It was out of season so quiet. You have to go into town for breakfast - we went a little farther on to Sharkeys which was outstanding

Very friendly staff and it was clean enough - but the building and the rooms are truly vintage. If you're into old stuff and don't mind dated interiors you'll do just fine here. I was shocked to discover they had wifi in the building. We had a studio with a pull-down bed, our chief complaint was actually the pillows that were totally flat so we both woke up with neck aches. All in all it is close to the lifts and reasonably priced off-season.

... decent down rocky steps. They shook a tad; maybe I sat still too long. I walk through the boulders on the face of the mountain and comment to myself how a fat person couldn't squeeze through the gaps in these rocks. But really, a fat person wouldn't make this climb. I continue down but once I pass the boulders, the track gets easy. It snakes back and forward across the face making a lot of distance, but reducing the difficulty due to angle of assent. So I'd ...

... Colorado. It is a pretty sweet hip place, that is very similar to burlington Vermont where I went to school. Here we have been eating pizza, making stirfry, playing boardgames, drinking bear, and riding bikes. Tomorrow We will be heading to Vail, Colorado in the mountains to stay with my friend Be Bop. This will hopefully be amazing because we will be high in the mountains during peak foliage! I will try to write again as soon as I get to anouther computer. pictures should be on soon! ...

Right around this time Gordy was getting a vibration in the front end of his bike so he really took it easy on this downhill.

... read of our Butler map of the area revealed a 15 mile dirt section.

Not being gun-shy of dirt (see the Sturgis blog entry) - we were all set to go for it.... then we checked the contour lines, road sections and of the course we had the heavy storm and rain from the night before..... we'll never know if we could have got through, but we have both been well looked after by gut-feelings on this trip....and our vibe was to give ...

... for distance with elevation. This little 4-mile hike took Shar & I 2.5 hours, the majority of which was straight up. Then, upon ignoring the 'trail closed' sign posted on a felled tree, we basically bushwacked our way down the other side ~ happy to finish up on a long wide trail, even if in the baking sun. Dig it, Colorado ~ I'm learning!
