Oxford, England, United Kingdom 1073-2As much as I love the idea of travelling and exploring the world I don't fancy the logistics of it, i.e. preparations, sorting everything out before we go, etc. That's probably because I bare some symptoms of OCD and freak out when things happen not the way I'd planned them. Anyway, here are some things we had to sort out before our departure:

1. Passport - I changed my surname due to marriage so had to apply for a ...
Oxford, England, United Kingdom mgarman... not possible. Now, with just 3 months to go it's real, it's tangible, it's there, waiting around the corner.

Many things have happened during those 16 months of waiting. We got married with Michal and as a result of that my surname is far less difficult to pronounce and far easier to spell. Unfortunately, the same doesn't apply to my first name, Malgorzata, which has sadly remained a nightmare. Call me Gosia, please.

I immediately tried to take a nap, but ended up going to lunch with friends.

At 6:00pm, our class went on a tour with our professor, who showed us around the University and various important landmarks. We visited the beautiful St Edmund's Hall library, a converted medieval church that is sadly closed for our entire stay for improvement work. We took a walk down High Street, the rough equivalent of UNC's Franklin ...
Oxford, England, United Kingdom the.waitrixI know it has been awhile since I last wrote. Well, more than a while, but things have been crazy here and I apologize. So, term has ended and the new term doesn't start until May. I no longer have classes, just a very long essay, a very very long exam, and a very very very long thesis to write by September and then I am done. I have been unofficially accepted to stay for a doctorate here, but I am still waiting ...
Oxford, England, United Kingdom my_backpack... dip and made a few phone calls while I waited for more news on the undecided departure time of our massive plane. I figured I might as well take advantage of my last few hours of nearly free phone service before weaning myself from cell usage. At 10:00, now 4 ½ hours from the original departure time, we were informed that the plane was irreparable. A new plane was going to be necessary, but we were likely going to have to wait for a new one to arrive that we could commandeer for ...
Oxford, England, United Kingdom strangetowns... and learned what it was like to study there. (There are more than 35 separate colleges at Oxford University.) The chapel of New College of Oxford was beautiful. I loved the tour, it was amazing. The buildings are very old and have beautiful carvings. The stonemasons often used the faces of people they knew when carving the heads. The Duke ...

Oxford, England, United Kingdom devinwatson... really beautiful houses here, many still with thatched roofs. (BevNote: Apparently it is law that, if you purchase a home with a thatched roof, you must replace it, when needed, with another thatched roof.) The weather has been mild and a bit damp. The gardens here are fantastic. Supposedly, they are kept the same as they were ...
Stratford-upon-Avon, England, United Kingdom pemalakAugust 13, 2000 – Sunday

London to Stratford to OxfordAfter the usual European continental breakfast, we headed off to Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon. There are over 30 colleges at Oxford and there really isn't a 'campus’ to speak of. Oxford is known ...
