      ... York, we are staying at the YHA, amazing hostels. They are a chain of youth hostels. They are very clean, have allot of resourceful people. And very welcoming. They are like staying at a hotel, kind of They are a hostel, but because of being a world chain they have standards. Past 11 we have to be let in. Reception, very secure.       ... Rochdale the narrow boats were almost pushing their way through the floating rubbish. I don't understand Rochdale - the people I talked to were well aware of the mess but quite accepting of it. I wonder why they tolerate it, why don't they get off their butts and set up litter picking groups to sort the mess out - it wouldn't take much effort?

Not quite, but Welton is a small rural village where traditionally there was not a lot of money, and most of the residents were farm labourers.
