Darwin

Alot of driving up north, we left Wester Australia and corssed into Northen Territory with a time difference of +1.5 hours, just as we passed the border we had a blow out of the front left tyre! luckily we had a spare one and horsed it on before proceeding up to Lake Victoria to our camp site for the night. Following day we headed north to the Kathrine Hot springs which were quite nice as well, there was a mud slide at the side of the springs so i took a blast of that, fun fun :) We just kept...

Back on the 900m long Ghan the Crazy Canadians and I played cards & dice to kill some of the 24 hour journey to Darwin. Fortunately there was a 4 hour break in the trip at Katherine where I opted for a boat tour along the Gorge. Nice, but not spectacular when compared to other sites. Taking the Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin was something that I had on my "To Do" list for several years, but despite devouring The Da Vinci Code, I'm glad it was not a return trip! I found Darwin a relaxed, cle...

Great Ocean Road

Hey everyone Hope you are all well? First things first, I have FINALLY managed to upload some photos - right back to my last Sydney update, so take a look if you get the chance to. I am loving being back on the road, and what a road the Great Ocean one is! Before I left Melbourne I made sure I got the important things in - trying out the amazing cake shops (I recommend Chocolate Kougelhoupf cake, like nothing I've ever tasted!), getting a few Boost Juice smoothies in (I am well and truly addi...

don't get me started on the flys...

OK, so turns out you just don't get used to temperatures over 43 degrees. The humidity has added to the fun now too, and lets not forget the flys!! Never mind eh, I'm in Australia!! Left Alice Springs heading up towards Darwin. Crossed back over into the Tropics so the scenery has changed alot, being more similar to around Cairns now. Stopped at some thermal pools for a very welcome swim, great jungle setting and with hundreds of flying fox bats hanging upside down from the trees which was pr...

After a night in Darwin we set off on the 4 wheel drive portion of the trip, in a big truck. First stop was Litchfield National Park, where we stopped to admire the giant termite mounds, some 3 times my height!! We also went on a river ride to spot the crocs and birdlife, including the big Jabiru. The first night we saw the first rain since leaving Adelaide nearly two weeks ago, in the form of a big thunderstorm. The lightening was non-stop! It also cooled the night temperature down enough th...

The Great Ocean Road

... Luckily though our camper was brand new with only 85 kilometres on the clock. All new bedding, sleeping bags, towels and kitchen area.. nothing had been used. We checked over the car anyway for dents etc and then got all the paperwork in order (opted for further cover on insurance as the winds had been very high) and then set off on the road. We stopped off at Coles first and got a load of snacks and 20 litres of water for Aimee. Probably still not enough ...

Going Topless on the Great Ocean Road

... a Lambourgini and Aston Martin parked up in a layby with a cameraman, then after them a Ferrari thundered by, they must have been filming a Top Gear does Great Ocean Road or something. At Bells Beach we tried to see if we could see some surfers as there was a Rip Curl competition on, but it was a bit late in the day and the swells didn´t seem too good. We then drove on to Torquay which was a bit of a strange place with some really nice houses (all ...

... you're emails and blog feedback. Always nice to hear from our friends and family back home. The next update will most likely be from Mandurah, Western Australia. I hate to think of this great adventure coming to a close. Guess all good things come to an end. (although I did hear on the Aussie news show about how badly they need nurses and doc's here.) Check the blog and stay tuned in .......... Till later. Cheers mates! No worries! Leslie and Joyce

1st leg of Great Ocean Road + wild koalas!

... these stacks are all that remain - pretty massive hunks of rock, (not quite straight from the geography text book I know!). Also most exciting of all - we saw 4 wild koalas chilling out in trees near to the roadside - we were lucky (a) because you don't often see them in the wide (Ozz is a big place and they can hide!) and (b) they are ...
