April 30th, 16th installment

April 30th 16th installment Today we had our last breakfast at the beautiful Jai Mahal Palace and checked out of our palatial room. Everything here, the grounds, the entertainment, the staff, was all great. The only thing I would change would be the internet. They charge around $12 a day for wireless and the room only had one possible outlet that would charge the computer. (We are still tied to our internet and Email) We meet Rampal at 9:30 AM for the 400 km drive to Udaipur. While loading t...

May 1st 17th installment We wake up at sunrise, as we have done every morning of the trip. Unfortunately it starts to get light at 5 am so we start our day early. Breakfast in the hotel dining room is buffet style as usual. This morning I ask myself the same question as every morning-"why does every hotel serve baked beans for breakfast?" I never seen anyone eating them but all of the hotels serve this unusual breakfast food. I ask the waiter if Indian people like baked beans for breakfast. ...

May 2nd. Udaipur

May 2nd 18th installment Our second full day and last one in Udaipur, dawns warm as usual. We had another lovely buffet breakfast at the hotel and walked around a bit while we awaited Rampal's 10 AM arrival. One more thing I should say about the food here. We have had a rather consistent problem with our bellies (not just that mine is getting bigger). At first we thought it was the different bacteria but now we think that it is just the unfamiliar food. The Indian food is quite good, however...

Udaipur - A city so beautiful and on the go

... of a Mughal-style garden at an impressive height. Other highlights of the Palace Museum include: the Kaanch ki Burj which, as the name suggests, is decorated with glasswork from floor to ceiling; a room dedicated to James Tod, with colonial knick-knacks, portraits and a copy of his Annals; a balcony embellished with Dutch and Chinese ...

Udaipur, the White City....but less blanche people

... I felt there was no clear right thing to do, but gave Mukeesh and his wife (after some distasteful negotiation) the money I had in my purse - 300 rupees, plus the 10 rupees that fell out which Mukeesh helped himself to. It was disgusting, and I have since become very angry that I paid anything at all. Hannah ummed and ahhed over whether to buy the piece she liked, and Mukeesh pushed very hard, making her feel like it would be an injustice ...

... to Australia? I fully believe i was an Indian princess in a past life because i have de-ja-vu alot here. We were hard up finding any unique places to eat and many had the same menu (with the Octopussy film) The second night we ate at the Sunrise Restaurant where we had home cooked thali and onion pakora (deep fried in batter). We also drank chai from clay pots served on cute beatrix Potter saucers at the Buddha Cafe. Often when you're trying to relax and have a ...

... is full of lakes :). Might be able to add some more to this tomorrow night as we are here for 2 nights. Wednesday morning we go on to Pushkar for 2 days, and then Jairpur for 2 more. After that is Agra and the Taj Mahal (really looking forward to that one). After a night in Agra we get the train to Goa, where hopefully I will learn to dive. Anyway, I'll update aagain as soon as I can. TTFN Alan

... a while enjoying the views to the city on one side and the mountains on the other. The other attraction is the langur monkeys , who clamber round the walls and trees and amuse themselves by playing on the parked motor bikes. On the way back into the city we stop at an art school, "where all the paintings are done by small children". We are shown the techniques and a range of paintings on display by a slick sales team but there are no children around "because it is Sunday ...
