Historical Traveler Reviews of The Tremont Boston - A Wyndham Historic Hotel

If you go here be prepared....

This hotel left much to be desired. I travel very often and was not happy with the accommodations, especially given the cost of the room.

The room was a large closet and several times the staff gave us contradictory information about availability, rates, amenities, etc. I stayed at the hotel because it was the location of a conference I attended. However, I told the conference management not to go back there.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed for a long weekend during the Early Music Festival back in June, and based our choice in part on the high rating of this hotel on TripAdvisor. But the place is a nightmare! They saturate every room and hallway with a sickening chemical spray "perfume". The furniture, rugs, drapes, linens, walls - you name it - everything in the place reeks of the stuff. And it must be affecting the staff, because almost every one of them was ashen and strange. Every room is the same - tiny, garish and smelly. None have bathtubs - believe me I looked at every available one - in the vain hope that just one wouldn't have that horrible smell. The windows don't open, unless you ask the mechanic to unscrew them - and then barely an inch or two. There's nothing to look at anyway, but the place badly needs airing out. A lovely woman from housekeeping - the only member of the staff who didn't seem like an android - brought up an air-filter, which helped a little, and at least deserves credit for effort. She was also very helpful in ensuring that the room was not re-sprayed while we were there. I should have changed hotels - is there a bigger hassle than that in this world? I would never consider staying there again, and will avoid Wyndham hotels entirely in the future.

Best hotel, best value

The Tremont Boston is an excellent hotel. Upon arival, we got all our requests and even snacks in our room that we requested via Wyndham by Request. We got a very low room rate for the great quality of the hotel. It is near everything...Park subway station, it is practically on the boston common where plays are preformed, in the heart of Tremont Street. The staff is welcoming. The hotel is just minutes from downtown crossing. we also had a very nice walk to and from back bay. the hotel is in the perfect part of town, by all the theatres. the room is very clean and high tech. this is the greatest hotel

A Pleasant Stay!

The room was very nice, and the hotel was very close to the subway station. Front desk people were friendly, and concierge service was superb. There was a lot of commotion from near by clubs and pubs around the area on one night. Other than that it was very good. A thumb up for Tremont!!

Great Time in Boston!

I had never been to boston and booked this hotel strictly from the reviews and write-ups and hoped for the best. We were not dissappointed! I recommend joining Wyndham by Request. We were upgraded to a Corner room on the top floor. In fact, all of our requests in the by request program were honored. I am in two other "vip" plans and they seem to have a hard time getting it right. Some advice on location; if your goal is to do everything in Boston (as ours was) this is a good spot. Your right on the subway line and one of the Trolley services makes the Tremont a regular stop. If your specifically wanting to be in "back Bay" ,"beacon hill", "waterfront", etc. you may want to check other locations. HOWEVER, we figured the we would walk everywhere, but when you realize how easy and convenient the subway is, you'll find yourself using it often. Therefore, the Tremont's central location is well suited.

Not the best but good for the money

from atcer28
Stayed here in March having got a very good rate on the wyndam web site. Joined wyndham by request and received an upgrade to a corner room which was perfectly adequate.

It is probably worth paying extra to get a better room as the standard rooms are supposedly very small and this room was just about right but no bath tub. The location is very handy for the subway and you can walk to most things as well. Never heard any noise from the nightclub but we weren't there at a weekend.

The neighbourhood isn't the greatest after dark but fine during the day. Given the very high prices of hotels in Boston this is pretty good for the money.

Highly Reviewed but not Impressed

Nice location for catching a Theater as well as near by dance clubs, bars and venues. Room was small, from the carpet to the interior design, the style was tacky and in poor taste. Stains on the carpet in the room. Something I would expect from a 2 star hotel.

Three Cheers for the Tremont Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
What can I say but "WOW" The Tremont is the best value in town and the staff was exceptional, they anticipated and delivered on all of our expectations. It's a great location and in walking distance to The Boston Common, The Freedom Trail, Newbury Street and Fenway Park. I recommend this Hotel to Business or Leisure travelers. Don't forget to sign up for By-Request to get free domestic long distance and free snacks and beverages!!!!

Wydham - Tremont Street, Boston

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Tremont Boston after reading some good reviews. I joined WydhambyRequest as suggested, but none of the options we choose were ever met. We got the sixth floor and had thought this would be a quiet room, very wrong, still could hear the bar music from the lobby at 2am. Didn't really complain as we had a late night, but it was a little difficult trying to get to sleep initially. Was a little concern if the sheets were changed after the last guests, and the decor was not really to our liking, felt more like a circus theme. One thing I can say is that the price was very affordable, but I would rather pay more to stay somewhere else. Be warn, the hotel is close to Chinatown, the rubbish on the streets are a usual site. Maybe Wydham Boston, closer to the Quiency Markets, would be a better option if price was an issue. I would not go back to Tremont if I visited Boston again.

Excellent Location for a Quick Trip

from dinahcat
My friend and I spent two nights at the Wyndham on Tremont Street in mid-January and had quite a nice stay. The opulence of the lobby led me to think, however, that the rooms would be somewhat comparable. Although comfortable, the room was almost too small for the two double beds. The chair for the desk at the foot of the second bed barely allowed for room to sit there. And the lack of a bathtub (shower only) surprised me quite a bit..it was unexpected. However, the staff were friendly, polite and efficient . We had neglected to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door the night before and the staff were knocking at our door at 9am, even though check out wasn't until noon. Not a big problem, they apologised immediately. The location was ideal for getting around on foot. Close to the Orange Line in Chinatown (about a block), near reasonably priced restaurants, the Commons and right across the street from the Wang Theatre. We would definitely return there for our next visit.
