Ooh-er. This is just a quickie (read the next one for a description of the place we stayed in) but I feel this should be added. Spent the afternoon river tubing.
San Ignacio, Belize fiwarranderWhat an interesting way to spend my 21st!! To start, I´ll have to explain the place we were staying to get a real feeling.... from paradise island to.. well.. eco-friendly "budget accom" (as it managed to call itself). Wee little cabins - quite cute actually though. But not so much space! And.. well.. out of the city and in with the trees so lots of lovely mozzies and whatnot to pester us! (Discovered an immense fear of flying bugs in one fellow traveller. Fine with bugs on the ground, but no...
San Ignacio, Belize fiwarranderGot up really early today so we could get the boat for 8.30am. We then got in a taxi to the bus station and just caught the bus before it left, so we had to quickly jump on. The journey to San Ignacio took 2 1/2 hours and it was a rather hot journey. The bus stopped a couple of times to let people come on with food and a lady came on the bus and sang in order to sell her burgers - it was rather amusing! We arrived at the trek stop at about 4pm. It is on the outskirts of the jungle and there a...
San Ignacio, Belize jensadventuresWe got picked up at 8.30am this morning by the horsetrek guy. It took us 2 hours to get to ´greenacres´and our guide was telling us all about Belize, the different communities and the armish people. I had a grey horse called Sky which turned out to be relatively well behaved. We rode through the jungle, through orange groves and across rivers, it was really good fun although my bum hurt so much at the end! We got back to our jungle lodge at about 4 and I was so glad to have a shower and get r...
San Ignacio, Belize jensadventuresIt´s september 4th already. As usual we´ve been really busy doing a lot of activities which left me little energy left to go and update...but now the tour has ended I can slow down a little bit on the activities and write a bit! So in short on August 28th we crossed the border into Belize. Crossing the border went without problems. We went to San Ignacio...which is just a couple of kilometres from the border and stayed at a place called Trek Stop. The place was really cool. It´s a bit away fr...
San Ignacio, Belize ronaldHow do you take four hours to go 60 miles? Take the local bus. It is a good way to see the country, get to know the locals and listen to your iPod but it does take a while. We stayed at the Trek Stop, a collection of rustic cabins and campsites in a tropical garden. It was delightful. It is run by Belizean and American partners. The Americans have the smallest share in the place but live there and run it. They are retired hippie biologists and he sounds just like Jimmy Stewart which is very c...
Succotz Village, Belize thetembas... But there isn't anything to do, not at the moment anyways. I meet more volunteers and learn this is typical of the Belizean way. It is just too hot to be going going going, especially in the heat of mid day. I take a short walk with 2 girls to the local market. We each buy some local produce from vendors in a dirt parking lot, then head to the grocery store. The aisles are filled with all different kinds of foods and sauces ...
San Ignacio, Belize sarainbelize... With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Belize City, Los Angeles, or even New York City! From there you can direct your ...
San Ignacio, Belize heligypsy... without significant incident - we had to give the ranger a beer to let us in. then it was back to the bar, again, for entirely too much alcohol consumption and lively conversation. this morning came far too quickly for me (Shane) and my body felt as though I'd been hit by a fast moving Belgian garbage truck. i went tubing to clear my head... enjoy the photos... tomorrow morning we are off to Guatemala.. and we might make a side trip into Mexico for a week...TBD...
San ignacio, Belize kjerstan... old tricks but we had dropped our guard and our supposedly 'nice' landlord Kenny G took advantage of us. How the three of us didn't see it I will never know we did have some revenge but only realised it much later.... The day began with a trip to some more maya ruins called Xunantunich near the border set in the most beautiful surroundings. The area has so much you can do, from kayacking to exploring the many cave systems that are so famous in Belize but ...
San Ignacio, Belize nikandads2008... at the best way to go about it. In Gods time if you truly give yourself to Him it will happen. With a little Gideon and personal mix here is my view. Stand for two hours or two hundred I will stand for Christ! Even When I must sit down and let others stand in my place. Christ stood through death so that I may stand with Him, carrying out His love to all the world and for eternity! H Randall Pitschmann III Bond Servant Of Christ
