A lot like St. Augustine

... The locals are a mix of Arab and Black African so there are a lot of beautiful skin tones, but you can't really see them because all the women are clad from head to toe in black, sometimes with their face showing. But the town is really cool. Our guest house is simple but clean. And it's right across the street from a restaurant called the Green Garden which is run by a British ex ...

Zanzibar Part 2

... Fauz and we got it for 16,000 Tsh per night (about $12.5). I would definitely recommend it! Thursday night was our last night as a foursome; Lindsey and Megan flew back to Uganda the next day. We spent the evening eating, drinking, talking and watching the sun set over the harbour. All too quickly we were packing the American gals into a taxi; four became two! Dawn and I had debated what to do with our weekend; we did consider returning to the east coast but having found such a ...

Beach Time

... next day to go to Nungwi instead of Jambiani. Nungwi is more developed than Jambiani. We stayed in a nice room just off the beach for $50/night. They put flowers on the bed each night. Sandi lounged on the beach and read about 4 books in 5 days. I lounged as much as I could, but spent one day kayaking and walking around the island. I found a natural aquarium where I could swim with sea turtles and feed them. They were about 4 feet in diameter ...

... when we said that we live around 150 kilometres from the nearest coastal village - How do you get fresh fish every day then he asks? It was a strange concept for him that we didn't actually eat fresh fish most days. He wanted to know things about England, like when the rains were - that was quite easy really - all year round!! and wanted to tell us things about Zanzibar and teach us some more words in Swahili, so we've added a couple more words to our vocab now. It was a really good time.

Relaxing on Zanzibar

... The next morning we were off to the beach! Our resort had loads of bungalows just off the beach, a bar/ restaurant on the beach and additional bars/ restaurants further down the beach. We spent the time swimming, snorkelling, playing frisbee, (Mark/ Chris, the frisbee has been a great present!), getting sunburnt (damn English skin!), eating, drinking and doing some shopping. It was very nice to get off the truck ...

Warning - Another boring entry

... have run into her in East Africa. Once I got back to Kendwa, I just chilled out ion the beach. I ran into 2 English girls, Beth and Katie, that I met in Jinja (Uganda) about 6 weeks earlier. It seems like everyone is on the same East Africa trail as we keep bumping into eack other. It was quite funny running into them. WHen I first met them, it was only my third day in Africa and I had absolutely no travel stories to share. I was definitely the ...
