This entry is really for my benefit alone but the diving may be interesting for some of you so will start with that..... I'd truly forgotten just how beautiful the island is, having not been back for 25 years - it truly is a tropical island paradise and all the geckos, palm trees, coconuts, crabs dirt tracks, phosphate mines and the like really, really took me back......! Tourism has got no hope though which I'm so thankful for as I'd be gutted if the island ever went the way of Koh Samui or ...
Christmas Island, Christmas Island peterhiamWednesday 19 November Close to Christmas Island S 10° 02.9' E 106° 00.0' Managed the morning walk this time, although I had to avoid several sections of deck that have got very slippery (due to grease, salt and barbeque respectively). Later it came on to rain quite heavily, so that may have improved things. Towards the end of the morning, I took a tour of the engine room which was of course impressively large ...
Christmas Island, Christmas Island pete-r18th Monorail to KL Sentral, Ekspress train to airport. Not many people on the flight and only a few that I recognise - Gordon and James, mainly. Arrive back on Christmas Island about 2pm. A beautiful clear approach to the runway, a great view of Settlement on the way in, and a nice smooth landing. Begin the walk from the airport into town but am saved from walking too far when Anne stops to give me a lift. The Cove is full of yachts - there's 9 of ...
Flying Fish Cove, Christmas Island brayToday Spider was sleeping and i was stroking him and he woke up in a sudden and bite me with out thinking!!! Prudence told me it would be O.K. but i don't believe her! Apparently our ship has gone off track and we are lost!! its exciting but scary!!!
Nasa Port, Christmas Island thy.madi... down from the hills (almost 1000 m down to sea level in less than 2 km - my first impression of the harbor with fishing boats was that it was a crater lake or something. But the road, next to the coastline was like 100-200 m high and had great views of the coast. It was a very curvy road because the coastline had all these bays and coves - much like the French Riviera. Didnt have time to drive too far or explore too much - settle for the first decent hotel that came ...

Christmas City, Christmas Island zdankoThe plan was to have a shower and then head for a realxing Tibetan massage, but waht we didn't realise is that it's just Tibetan code for torture!! 70 minutes of being pummelled, elbowed, slapped, pulled is not what i call realxing. Every time Debs or myself let out a scream our guide would simply say 'relax'. That's fine for him to say ...
Songpan, Christmas Island boo... pas la saison des fameux crabes. First time I see so much water. I hope I remember how to swim. What a blue! Our arrival on that little volcanic island surprises everybody. They have only one flight per week and it's not today. Everybody welcomes us warmly and seems enthousiastic for our journey. Unfortunately for me, it's the famous crab season.
