        I grabbed the bus to Frankfurt Hahn after checking flights and booking on a Ryanair at 06:45 this morning. I sat in the airport for a few hours as it was an early flight but it was fine. We left on time and despite a rather bumpy landing I made my way from Stanstead to Kings Cross for the train to Grantham and then home.

        I have a couple of hours to waste away so grab a coffee and sit outside. I notice ...

The first castle in Thetford, a probable 11th century Norman ringwork called Red Castle, was replaced in the 12th century by a much larger motte and bailey castle on the other side of the town. This new castle was largely destroyed in 1173 by Henry II, although the huge motte, the second largest man-made mound in England, remained intact.         ... recently upgraded Travelodges" since arriving in the UK, we decide to give it a go .... suffice to say, NEVER AGAIN. A quick walk around Peterborough (nothing to see here) in search of what we know will be one of our last Guinness Steak Pies. Success at O'Neill's - a local Irish pub, and then back to our hotel to deal with emails and other work that we have been happily neglecting since we left Edinburgh.

        ... and of course trying them out. Yesterday I finally got my backpack after looking at loads for the past couple of weeks. I half filled it and went walking up the fields. Today Mum, Amy and I went clothes shopping and I filled my backpack properly, it was a bit touch and go for a while whether it was going to fit or not!!! It was only 16kg though which isn't too bad.
