... today was our longest driving day) and to Carbisdale Castle - which seriously is a castle - complete with a multitude of resident ghosts - the Lady in White, The Piper or the Nursery which is so haunted people can't stay in it! So we've had a big old feed, and we're looking forward to an early night. We're in boys and girls rooms, so Josh and I have been split for the first time this holiday! Who will escort me to the toilet in the middle of the night!

... didn't feel too bad as the weather just didn't break.
I loaded up the bike and then headed up and over in the car and drove the 60 mile route. It would have been hard going and once started it would have been very difficult to cut short as there is no quick way back. Either the 11 miles back over the summit or carry on around the peninsula. I was quite glad that I had not ...
I set off this morning looking for a group of surfers on the beach, but by the time that I got there at around 9am I guess they had realised that the waves (surf) was not all that good in Thurso and they must have moved on. I had a look for them on my way but I couldn't see them, I guess they must have gone the other way up the coast.
I set out with all good intentions of getting to SYHA Durness and stopping there for the night while ...
Today is time to get back on track, I am in East Leake and I need
to get back to Scotland. Luckily Daniel doesn't wake me up too early
and although I don't set off as early as I need to, I get a good nights
sleep.
I
get my gear swapped from the Land Rover and into the BMW and get set
off at around 10:30 ...
Went to the highlands. Visited St Andrews (a famous gold course which you have to book 6 month in advance to play at) as well as Glenlivet (a whisky distillery) just went for a quick walk int eh rain through the area before having dinner of Tomatoe soup, chicken and cous cous and fruit salad. Was a very pretty area. But didn't do much around the town.

Oh, and one of the friendly horses in the picture ate a corner of Krystal's jacket because she came too close. So...bonus points!
Getting off the island tomorrow, which is good because I had a nightmare about being stuck in a sheep pasture last night...

... and kept going …. slowly. As a driver, you fear being side-swiped by every oncoming vehicle. As a passenger, I spent the whole time cringing away from the left side expecting to be killed at any moment from running into a post or rock wall at speed. Either way, it is surprisingly difficult to judge where your boundaries are, where the edge of the car actually is in relation to the road. By the end of the week I was up to the speed limit and sometimes spent ...

... just opened my eyes to the sheer beauty of the place even more, rather than satisfy any thirst. It was a good four hour drive back to Glasgow, passing through Inverness, Perth and Stirling, which again offered great views for the most part. I certainly felt ready to tackle another seven week summer camp, although I also knew there was a lot more travel I needed to do in Scotland. It's one of those places, so unbelievably beautiful, that the more one sees the more one wants to see.

< br>A long day of driving beckoned, which we felt was necessary in order to get some appreciation of the rugged Scottish landscape. After scraping the ice off the car’s windscreen we crossed the Firth of Forth parallel to the iconic Forth Rail Bridge and across to St Andrews. Though we were again under a clear blue sky the idea of a round of golf at the Old Course didn’t seem ...
