Although the rooms are small, the location is convenient from Paddington but it DOES NOT include breakfast although they do will offer you a very overpriced one downstairs which I would not recommend. We arrived from an early flight and they were able to accommodate an early check-in which we really appreciated. This is our second time at a Shaftesbury which we find perfect for an overnighter in London.

Danica's 34th birthday today. We started the day after a small sleep in until 10am, then just managed to make it to breakfast. Then back to the room to prepare packing our suitcases. Lunch was at a nice vegetarian restaurant called the Gate, the food was very good and we had a great afternoon, followed by some birthday prosecco in the hotel. Later …

... as we check out the time and it’s 1pm, no wonder our bellies are rumbling. We head into the supermarket and check out the lunch deals. They have these deals where you choose 1x sandwich, get a choice between cake, fruit, muesli bar, and a choice of any drink for a maximum of 3pound ($6). So we thought that sounded pretty good and went with the deal. It was like having a little lunchbox meal, it was cute. We bought our lunch and went back across the road towards ...

Summer is back! Hot & sunny day with top of around 29C so off to Kew Gardens.

It's a huge place with vast expanses of grassed areas amongst the trees, buildings, glasshouses and numerous types of more formal gardens. Not as many flower beds as I had thought there might be although I guess it's near the end of summer. The roses were certainly well past their best.

I really liked the parterre garden (geometric pattern of beds) in front of the Palm House.

Most of the shows finish around the same time and the footpaths were packed as theatre-goers spilled out of the theatres. People were singing the songs from the shows as they walked along the street. It was unbelievable. I think it even tops Broadway. Others may have a different view. Melbourne might be ...
