... I had them give me a mix of bills so I got to see a verity of different images on the money. I was surprised though when I flipped the money over to see English on the back. I know they speak a lot of English over there but I guess I just wasn't thinking about that.
Also, at the moment I am waiting for my unlocked cell phone to arrive so I can make sure it is working ...

Con's: The rooms were incredibly small even on the concierge floor (I'm a Hilton Gold Club member). The bed was a queen (I was "guaranteed" a king over the internet however there were none available when I arrived).
Pro's: professional / courteous staff; location.
We stayed for one night (Monday, Nov. 8). We were in a Junior Suite (Rm. 410 - which is the size of a regular hotel room - I can't imagine how small their regular rooms are). When we first turned down the bed, there was hair and make-up on two of the pillows. I called the front desk - they apologized and said they would send someone right up - they did not. I finally went down myself an hour later and asked to see a manager. They sent me the housekeeping manager (she promptly gave us new pillowcases but it should have never come to me having to go down there is the first place). The sheets and pillows in the room have probably been in use since the hotel originally opened. I've never had such threadbare sheets in my life and the pillows we just plain small and old. If I were GM of this hotel, I would certainly try spending a night or two in one of the rooms to see what everyone on this page is complaining about (and rightly so!).
Boy, do I wish I had read the reviews here before I booked my stay at the Seelbach. It was my one year anniversary, and I heard at work that the Seelbach was the best hotel in Louisville. The perfect place to take my wife. Check in was quick and the staff at the desk were quite nice. I like a King bed and they were able to accomodate nicely. The inside of this hotel was awesome. We felt like we had been taken back about 100 years. The elevators were lovely. We stayed on the 6th floor. We got off the elevator and were impressed by the size and beauty of the hallway. We knew we were in for a treat. Anticipation grew as we put our key into the door. We turn the handle, push the door open and SMACK!!! We're greeted by the smallest hotel room I'd ever been in. My dorm room in college was bigger. Don't get me wrong, it was nicely appointed. Antique furniture, marble bathroom, beautiful wallpaper and artwork. I bet the rooms on a Carnival cruise aren't much smaller. There was a red stain about the size of a basketball on the carpet next to the bed. The armoire door wouldn't stay open so we could watch TV, so I had to prop it open with the curtains. The desk lamp would not turn off, so I had to unscrew the bulb in order to go to sleep. The bathroom door did not latch properly. The shower couldn't maintain a constant pressure.
A Class Act!
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Seelbach while he was in Louisville on business. The room was unsurpassed in quality furnishings and the bathroom was nearly over the top in luxury. The historical architecture and character of the building itself are just wonderful and despite it's "highbrow image" was treated like a princess by the staff. They bent over backwards to tend to every need. This hotel is not only a landmark but a true Louisville treasure. I'm only sorry I can't visit more often.
No, No, No
We stayed here during Louisville's homecoming weekend. Therw was a fraternity party/dance going on. Our room was in the middle of a hallway booked entirely to Louisville students. When we informed the front desk that we had an early flight in the morning & were concerned about noise, they told us the students had signed a contract & wouldn't make any noise! Needless to say, there was constant screaming & drinking in the hallway, banging on our door [they couldn't understand why our door was closed as they assumed we weere part of the party].
The hotel finally moved us at 1:45 AM! We had paid upfront and there was no offer of a refund. We would NEVER stay here again.

What a disappointment the Seelbach turned out to be. From what I had read and heard about this hotel, I couldn't wait to surprise my husband, with the secret getaway I had planned for his B-Day. I booked the concierge level, thinking this would be even more special. Made dinner reservations for us in the Oak Room.
After some research, I assumed that the Seelbach was an old and prestigious hotel with fine service in the heart of downtown Louisville. Well, it is old. I made a reservation and paid a premium to hold a room with no smoking and 2 double beds. There are not many of these. When I arrived, they did not have the room I had requested. I had made the reservation through Hilton, and not the hotel, which was the problem. The room was very nice, nicely decorated, with reproduction antique furniture, but was very tiny. There was about 2 feet between the the beds and the walls and about 2 feet between the beds. The view was of a charming bricked up window. I arrived at 10:30 PM Chicago time, carried my bags up and decided to have a cold beer at the bar. The hotel bar claims to one of the best 50 bars in the world.
We stayed at the Seelbach three days before the Kentucky Derby for one night. Upon checking in at 9:00 p.m., the clerk informed us that since the "Derby People" were coming the next day, the checkout time was being changed. When I asked what time that would be, she asked how early could we leave. I again asked what time checkout was and was informed that it was 9:00 a.m., although our reservation stated 1:00 p.m. She was very rude and made no attempt to compensate us for this change. We had been looking forward to some much needed sleep, but instead found ourselves getting up early and rushing to get out the next morning. The staff we encountered were either rude or indifferent to us and we felt that we were getting in the way of their preparations for the "Derby People", AKA the guests who really mattered. While the hotel and accomodations were lovely, our overall experience was a nightmare.
