If you're searching for happiness, pack your bags and make your way to the South Pacific, to a group of islands that form the country of Vanuatu, for in 2006, the Ni-Vans (meaning people of Vanuatu) were voted as the happiest people on the face of this planet, and once you’ve had a chance to meet them, hopefully some of that happiness might just rub off on you.
The islands lie somewhere between Australia and New Zealand, and with a population of only about a quarter of a million...
That evening we flew back to Port Vila. It was approaching the end of our vacation and we were definitely on a high after our experiences in Tanna and Santo. But before flying back home we made time to finally visit the Mele Mele Cascades, and we were glad we decided to do it. From the entrance to the cascades, the path took us up through forested cover, passing fast flowing small cascades and slightly turquoise pools, up stone and wooden staircases. In the distance we could hear the roar of ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu eastcoastrod I had to travel to Vanuatu for 4 days for work......... Very tough
Unfortunately I could only fly in on Saturday morning so had to spend the weekend as a tourist - all paid for by the Coke company.
Spent Saturday and Sunday as Mr Tourist enjoying the 30 degree days. As we export Coke to Vanuatu I spent Monday and Tuesday looking at their market and doing training with their staff.
Vanuatu is a small island with a population of approx 80,000
The water is amazing. You can jump in fr...

... buildings, sumptuous odors wafting from local restaurants, and local vendors hawking their wares greeted me at every turn. Drivers have the right of way here, so vigilance when crossing the street kept me alert behind my camera lens.

Craving more than the city sights, I wandered through a local artists' market and talked with the locals. One lovely grandma asked me how my day was. I told her I enjoyed my time so ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu tlbuster... in town. It has been very rainy the last couple of days, so I haven't really been doing too much but hang around and go for walks. But today the sun is out! I went for a kayak ride and did a little snorkeling. Everything is just so much prettier when the sun is shining. But now I think I am going to head out for a walk. Hopefully I will be writing again very soon to say that Fifth Season is here and let you know what the plan is. Love, Lindsey
Vila, Efate, Vanuatu linny495Still here in Port Vila, we are waiting on our friend Keith from Longshot to arrive he on Friday from the States. Today's task is to find a converter for the boat so we can power it up dock side. Our batteries have been insanely low and we have been relying on the engine to help us start the generator. Kim and I spent the day in the pouring rain looking for a converter. We ...
Port Vila, Vanuatu abeiner11... bed and a desk and a chair in it. It is super spacious and located at least 15-30 ft away from the next closest structure or neighbors. This is incredible. I have more privacy here than I had in the last 4 months leaving in hostels, my mom or my bro's house!! PC assigns you a 2 inch thick foam mattress, linens, a pillow, and a blanket. I wish the mattress was 3 inches thick and made out of memory foam.....but seriously I don't know if it can get better than this!!!
Mangaliliu, Vanuatu jackc... as prizes rather than things like marbles. The stationery sent over by the West Norwood School was very much welcomed and they treat the pens and pencils with more reverence than anything else in the school! The money raised by Lodge Scuba was originally earmarked for building a new classroom which they very much need but this would cost about 5 million Vatu, far more than what was raised by LSA. As a start I bought a huge supply of exercise books for the pupils and ...
Banban Community, Vanuatu saminpacific... like she was crying over how beautiful and idyllic it is. Then they just sat down and didn't say a word to each other for the entire 45 minutes they were there - it was like she was thinking "this is soooo beautiful, but what am I doing *here* with *him*" - ah, the importance of marrying for nothing but the right reasons is oh-so-evident here! Grabbed our snorkeling gear and walked to the "Blue Hole" to go snorkeling. First you walk down to the ...
Tanna, Vanuatu benbethel... I've stayed in better! It's a bit like being back in Central America again. Won't be here for long though as I'm about to set sail on the Tall Ship Soren Larsen. I'll be off on a voyage through the outer islands of Vanuatu and New Caledonia arriving back in Noumea on the 16th - I hope all the strike issues are resolved by then! So it's bye from me for now as I'll be on the high seas. The Tall Ship Soren Larsen ...
